When Shoes Attack

So, I was off from work on Mon & Tue this week for Pesach, which is always fun (especially seeing as how I'm what I refer to as a "bad jew"). During my time off, I decided to tackle my closet - in addition to my hair, as previously shared.
In doing so, I had to figure out what to do with all of my shoes. This was kind of a wake-up call as I never even knew how many I had! So, here is the pile of most of them:
After sorting through everything and getting rid of about 8 pairs that were definitely dead, here is what I ended up with:
(not pictured: sneakers, flip-flops, and some additional pairs still in the storage bin under my bed)
They are all currently shoved back into my closet, albeit a bit more organized than before. However, I still need to come up with a solution for keeping them that way - and from preventing the dog from attacking/eating them!
We all know that any shoe collection is a living/breathing organism that continues to grow. So, any suggestions?
