Shake & Smoothie Recipes From My Dietician (Some Good for Digestive Disorders Too!)

Hi, everyone!
As most of my friend's on here know by nw, I have been diagnosed w/ gastroparesis (stomach paraylis) which basically means my stomach doesn't digest food properly. This week I have learned my condition is on the serve side but I am feeling better the last 2 days and am able to eat small amounts of solid foods again. I'll blog later tonight about the condition & such.

But.... I wanted to share some recipes the nutrionist printed out for me. Sometimes w/ gastroparesis (GP) it's hard/impossible to eat food in it's solid form, so she's given me recipes which look really great for smoothies & shakes. Now, as she has them listed- they are higher calorie because they're listed w/ whole milk but we all can substitue 1% / 2% or fat free milk. With my system i can not tolerate whole milk so i'm using super skim fat free milk.

Some of them sound really good! :)

Pineapple Shrub
1/2 cup pineapple juice
3/4 cup lemon sherbet
1/2 cup whole milk
1/4 cup lemon lime soda
blend juice, sherbet & milk together. Add in soda & serve. Makes 2 cups.
270 calories / 3 g protein per cup

Peaches n Cream
1/2 cup fresh, frozen or canned peaches
3/4 cup vanilla ice cream
3/4 cup whole milk
few drops almond extract
combine & blend together
Makes 2 cups
265 calories/cup & 8 grams of protein

Lemon Velvet
1/2 cup lemon sherbet
1/2 cup vanilla ice cream
1 cup whole milk
2 tbs lemon juice
1 tbs whipped topping
Combine all (excepted whipped topping) in blender and top w/whipped topping.
Makes 2 cups
225 calories per cup / 7 grams of protein per cup

Melon Frappe
1 cup melon (any type)
1/2 cup sherbet (orange,lime or raspberry)
1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup vanilla ice cream
1 tbs lemon juice
2 tbs sugar
Puree melon in blender. Add remaining ingredients & blend.
Makes 3 cups
270 calories / 7 grams protein per 1/2 serving (1.5 cups)

Mocha Frost
1 cup whole milk
1 cup chocolate ice cream
1 tbs nestle quik powder
1 tsp instant coffee powder or crushed instant coffee crystals
Combine all together in a blender
Makes 2 cups
240 calories / 8 grams of protein per cup

Tropical Treat
1 Ripe banana
1/2 cup apricot nectar
1/2 cup pineapple juice
1/2 cup vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup whole milk'1/2 tsp of almond extract
1/2 tsp nutmeg
Blend all together in blender & serve
Makes 2 cups
220 calories / 4 grams of protein per serving

Johhny Appleseed
1 cup applesauce
1/2 cup apple juice
1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup vanilla ice cream
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tbs sugar
blend all ingredients together.
Makes 3 cups
250 calories / 6 grams of protein per 1.5 cups

As with anything, eapecially dieting, feel free to change anyway you like - substitue low fat milk, frozen yogurt, splenda, etc to make more diet friendly.

For those of us / gastroparesis or other disorders where consuming solid foods can be extremely tough and almost impossible at times, these may help you boost calories & get lots of protein levels.
