I went to my doctors appointment today to see about getting a nutrition plan together and find out my metabolism, how I can get myself back into check with my weight loss.
Looks like I do have a slightly slower metabolism than 'average', so that is a nice to know...though the breathing through a tube for ten minutes part of the test wasn't ;). They also checked my blood sugar, blood pressure, and did another blood levels test. My blood sugar was ok, not great, and my blood pressure was fine, they will have my cholesterol counts back next appointment (I do believe). Knowing that my metabolism is slower is a huge relief...just so that I know. Even if it would have been normal it still would have been nice to know, but now I know, I should eat on the lower end of the calorie range until my metabolism is back to normal (if that will happen).

On a positive note, when I when in for the testing, that is all I thought the visit covered. With a consult by the doctor of course and a follow up once a week for the rest of the month to see how I'm doing. He did sit down with me and discuss different recipes, the food plan that I should be doing, variations that I could use and things that I sigh...can not have (at least for the first 30 days).
However, I also got a bag of goodies. So that I could start the plan today he gave me some meal replacement shakes, until I am able to pick through and build a menu that will work within the guidelines for protien and other such items (a menu was provided, but I don't like all the foods and want to trade some out). I also got some approved snacks that are high in protien, low in sugar until I can get all of that sorted out. A drink bottle to have the shakes in AND 2 hours of personal training! I hadn't read about any of these benefits previously (and I scoured the coupon I had pruchased through citydeals), so it was great to walk out of there with a little more confidence.

It was great because he did talk about the whole thing being something I had to build so that I could keep it up after the 'diet' phase, that it needs to become a lifestyle. He and his staff were very welcoming the whole time. I would encourage anyone to go (in fact I get a 20% discount if you do ;), so email me for details if you WANT them and are in the SLC area). I realize that some people may think this is silly, and please don't flame me for doing things this way, but I and maybe others may need something like this to get us started. Again, remember that this is a board certified doctor. Seems silly to end with that sentence, so I am writing another one.

I feel a little more energized in my decision and in my efforts. I do, however need to skidattle and pick up some things from the store. TTYL

    There are many health conditions, and medications which affect our metabolism. Thyroid, hormones, insulin levels just are a few. Good for you following through and looking for an underlying cause for your slow weight loss. That was actually what began my journey. I was out of balance to an extreme point. However, with treatment, diet, and exercise, I am happy to say that as long as I remain mindful my body regulates itself. emoticon
