Fit Process on Running Shoes (w/ pics)

Monday, February 28, 2011

I live in Atlanta and they have a store called Big Peach Running Co. I went last weekend and got "fitted" for a new pair of running shoes. Here's how it went:

When you first get there you stand on the machine below:

This machine will tell the sales rep your arch type and foot width. It will also show where you apply the most pressure so that they know how much cushioning you need. It will even give you a suggested shoe size. Below is a pic of someone else's report.

After that, you jog on this treadmill for about 30 seconds:

There's a camera behind you that shows the rep HOW you run and whether or not you pronate. After your jog they slow down the video and you can watch a frame-by-frame video of yourself jogging. Here's a pic of a guy getting evaluated:

After all was said and done, I was told that I should be wearing a size 8.5/medium width sneaker. I don't pronate and I have a "good stride".

I must've tried on about 8 pairs of sneakers until I ended up with:

Granted, they're not the BEST looking shoe but they are super comfy and they fit me perfectly!!!!

I suggest everyone trying to find a spot like this one. It was well worth it. During checkout I was told that if I am ever unhappy with the shoes I can bring them back and exchange them. Comfort is their #1 priority!!! Love it!!!

By the way, here's the link to the store I went to:

Thanks for the post....I was wondering about getting my 10yr old daughter fitted since she has a wide foot and all the cute shoes she wants hurt her feet.

It took me a long time to find someone who could fit me properly. Without the proper shoe a runner or walker will have knee pain, hip pain, back pain and be generally miserable and give up. I am so glad that you found a place that put the correct shoe on you. I have a very wide foot and very high arch and wear a7.5 but not all wide 7.5 shoes fit me. New Balance put an 8.5 on me and because of numbness in my feet, mostly gone now after back surgery, I couldn't tell that they didn't fit. I stopped exercising because of pain in my knees and hips. Now I have the right shoe, a shoe made on a particular last, and I am walking a 15 minute mile. I hope that others will read your blog and take note. So many people do not realize that a 7.5 (or any other size) isn't necessarily the right shoe and to find a place who can fit shoes properly.

I go to the Road Runner Sports store in Elkridge, MD. I love the Brooks walkers. I'm a fan of the store. I travel over an hour and the shoes are every bit worth the money.

Great process!!. I go to a place in AZ that does the same thing. When getting a running show it's definately all about comfort over style. Happy running!. emoticon
