Cardio Circuit Class #4 Re-write
Wednesday, February 02, 2011
For some reason, when I submitted my last blog, I got an error message telling me to not use HTML in my entry. Funny thing is I didn’t use HTML. When I clicked “go back,” my entry was GONE.
So, here I go again…
Last Wednesday, hubby and I went out to the Y for our usual cardio and strength training session. However, when we got there at 6:00, we found out that they were closing at 6:30 due to the inclement weather. So, I swapped my rest day with Thursday. The next day, I did the Ultimate Boot Camp Tae-Bo DVD. I had never done that particular DVD before, and I felt it later that afternoon and the next day.
Then came Friday night’s Cardio Circuit class. We had started with 10 people in the class, which meant doing 10 stations. However, after we finished the first circuit, 2 people left. The instructor then took out 2 of the stations. The line-up for this week was:
* Decline push-ups x2
* Box jumps x2
* Weighted crunches x2 (used 10 lb weight)
* Ship rope x2
* Kettlebell squats x2 (used 10 lb)
* Russian twists x2 (used 8 lb ball)
* Side jumps x2
* Inch worms x1
* Seated cable shoulder row x1
* Seated cable bicep curl x2
The instructor gave us a nice compliment. While checking in with us, he told us we were doing great. I replied, “Yeah, for the geriatric crowd.” (We have easily 15-20 years on most of the participants). He then said, “You guys keep coming back each week. That’s what matters. Haven’t you noticed that the younger people come one week and then don’t come back?”
I didn’t have to use the handles for the box jumps. My form can use some improvement on the kettlebell squats. However, I have osteoarthritis in my knees, so I don’t squat as low. My problem is more that I lean forward too much and don’t keep my back straight. Otherwise, I’m making progress overall with my endurance doing each exercise, taking fewer rest breaks during the set.
And, I get to do it all over again two days from now!
