Why is my Wii torturing me????

Tuesday, February 01, 2011

I invested in 2 new games for my Wii at the weekend - Your Shape which includes a motion tracking camera, (and is the closest I am going to get to a Kinects for the time being as we don't have an X-Box 360) - and New U, which I think is sponsored by Fitness First, as it came with a voucher for a 5 day trial.

So far I like them both:

Your Shape doesn't always pick me up right, and I could do with a bigger front room, and the calories burnt are well high (155 in 15 mins - I doubt it), but it gets me sweating and my heart rate up. emoticon so it is mostly a cardio programme so far, although I can choose strength exercises too.

New U is trying to kill me. This one focuses on 2 areas you chose, (Belly buster and Pilates in my case) and uses the Wii Balance Board. This morning it gave me a gentle Pilates routine (about 12minutes and 7 exercises) emoticon just the kind of thing I am looking for. This evening it was a Belly Buster routine - okay I thought - and I get to exercise 9 slow push-ups on knees 12 of them - I struggle through - exercise 10 is the same - some how I manage them emoticon - exercise 11 the SAME!!!!! - quick breather and some how I squeeze out all 12. Exercises 12 - 19 were the same and I skipped them - 36 pushups on my knees is alot for me there is no way I could currently then do another 96. Next time I might try for another 12, or maybe not but I will get to 48 one day emoticon

If anyone is interested I would recommend both games (got them on 2 for £30 in HMV) with torture centre (New U) being my slightly preferred game.

Take Care emoticon

I've got the personal trainer game and also the fitness instructor one, the old one not the new one, both by EA I think. They are OK, but I still prefer using the cardio machines best!

Wow how evil! Sounds good fun though. I can definitely see the appeal when you don't have to leave your house for a workout, especially handy for when it's all icy! Hope the belly buster thing gets more varied!

I used to love working out on my Wii. I was playing Wii Fit Plus and found out that I wasn't burning any calories... 100 in 30mins is not good for me. I couldn't find a game that I really liked. So now I use it for a supplemental exercise....
