Well, I did it! I completed my first "adult competitive swim class." (What a mouthful!) And, I survived!
Here's the funny part... I'm the only student in the class! And, the coach is my friend. It's actually kind of a nice set up.
Here's pretty much what we did:
100 yards of freestyle with fins
100 yards of kicking with fins
50 yards of freestyle with face out of water looking forward which I can use to see where I'm going while competing
worked on side stroke, which I can use if I need to keep my face out of water
worked on elementary backstroke which I can also use if I need a breather
worked on breaststroke arms & legs separately (and I'm HORRIBLE at this, but I really want to learn it!)
worked on flip turns, which I can use while doing workouts to swim continuously and build stamina
The class is only 30 minutes and quite a lot of it was instruction so I didn't really work out too hard. I actually ran this morning, too, so it was probably good that we didn't swim a whole lot of laps. I'm sure that'll change, though!
So, here's my questions... as you are working out, what percentage of the time do you use fins? I'm also wondering about the pros & cons of using the fins. I'd love some of your thoughts if you are a swimmer! Thanks!
