My nephew/doctor told me once...Success comes from how many times you try. So keep trying. You can do this. The first steps are the toughest!!

finally... someone else that is vertically challenged like me...

okay... so WE both need to fix our lifestyle so we can drop the excess pounds and it isn't the first time around this block for either of us...

I actually started on December 1st but I handled it differently this time than I did all the other times. I think that what I did was to almost follow the spark plan. When I first joined spark I was already into ONE of my many diet and exercise routines so I skipped to where it felt right.... and guess what... I got sidetracked from those routines and I gained back 23 of the 25 pounds that I had lost...

On December 1 I had a sparkmail come in with a water challenge... I wasn't doing anything other than messing around on this site at the time... I was back to drinking diet soda and no water. I was gorging myself on candy and all those foods that really are bad for me. As for exercise, well if you count my walk from the couch to the kitchen as exercise, then yes, I was exercising.

Of course I knew I couldn't keep this up but I had spent weeks putting off starting any sort of health plan for myself. So when the water challenge came in, I accepted and set my goal at 64 ounces of water every day. I didn't even think about modifying my food intake or cutting back on sugar or exercising. The focus was pure and simple, drink 64 ounces of water today. On December 8th, after a full week of success, I was really happy. It felt really good to actually achieve a goal. Plus I got to collect on my reward that I had set for myself of buying a new bottle of bubble bath and taking the time to use it. It felt so good... sighhhhhhh

You'll be here soon. If I could do it, you can too... each new week I added another goal or two for my daily routine. I didn't bother with the scale until December 29th when it told me I had gained a few new pounds... I wasn't doing it for the scale but I was still aggravated by it... I kept my determination on doing my daily goals... Then on January 2nd I stepped on the scale again and it was down FIVE pounds... it was good to have the knod of approval from the scale for a change...

I keep a daily checklist of all the habits I want to perform. Here it is:
..... 20 minutes of exercise in cycles of two consecutive days followed with one day off
..... 2 water bottles (32 ounces) each day
..... take morning multivitamin, calcium plus D and fish oil
..... take afternoon calcium plus D and fish oil
    ..... take evening fish oil
    ..... eat yogurt
..... put at least 5 entries in my gratitude journal
    ..... 2 fruits
    ..... 3 vegetables
..... 5 minutes of daily meditation
..... avoid processed sweets and soda
..... log exercise and water in Spark

Since I started with just ONE goal (drinking water, which resulted in my NOT drinking soda) I got used to it in a week, so adding another couple goals the next week didn't hurt so much... then I got used to doing four things... the next week six things... and so on...

Now I am in a position of strength. I don't feel overwhelmed by the tasks of my daily routine. I LIKE doing things that are good for me. I'm better at coping with the stress of my life which is at an all time high. I've realized the importance of taking care of myself and making it a PRIORITY.

    You can do it too...

    ~ Be good to yourself...

Good to see you back! I like the new scheme of your page. Very upbeat!

Maybe instead of saying "I failed," you could say, "I sidestepped for a while, but found my way back."
