Trail Run yesterday

Yesterday I went on a practice run of the trail for the half marathon I am running in 3 (yikes!) weeks. I was a little nervous because I have never run on a trail before so I didn't now what to expect. Let me tell you- it was AMAZING!
It is a long, windy, spaghetti-like loop in a forest. It was really FUN to be out in the middle of nature, taking it all in. There were several steep spots that I conquered. That was nerve wrackng going down those! There was one part I even had trouble going up, but DH was there behind me giving me a push, LOL! The lady who is in charge of the trail saw me struggling with one and told me that during the race there would be volunteers helping people going up and down the steep parts. Really? Cool!
I loved that my hubby went with me! I think he was concerned about my safety--- running alone. We only encountered one shady looking person, but I think I am def. going to go pickup some pepper spray just for some security when I go back. The forest part of the run was about 10 miles and that is all we did. It took us about 2 and a half hours, but that was with us walking the last 2 miles because of DH's knee bothering him and with stopping several times for me to work up the courage to go down the hills plus talking with folks off and on. I did have to slow my pace down for DH because this was the first time he has been out running in a LONG time. I sure didn't mind though because I was glad to have him with me. My goal was just to get familiar with the trail and gain confidence and that I did!
We did 2 min run/ 1 min walk and cardio wise it felt great... my legs were somewhat sore by the end. And I am still a little sore today. I think for race day I am going to crank it up to run 3/walk 1 and maybe run the last 3 miles straight through since it is flat in a field. I am excited!!!! I think I may be able to finish at 2:30... but we'll see! My goal is to just finish with a smile on my face wanting to do another one!
