I (heart) Jeff Galloway

And I LOVE Sparkpeople. I can't thank those of you enough for suggesting Jeff Galloway to me. The man is a genius! He has totally changed my mindset on running. Who says you have to RUN the whole distance???? I did my first long run "Galloway style" (run 3 minutes, walk 1 minute) this afternoon and I feel amazing!!!! I am going to do JUST FINE on my very first half marathon next month. Today I ran/walk/ran 6 miles in just over an hour and I felt like I easily could have gone another 6. I don't feel the least bit whooped like I do when I do my long runs (5 miles in an hour) on the treadmill.
The weather was a beautiful 45 degrees with bright blue sunny skies. I was sporting my new Garmin Forerunner and thought it was just the coolest to be able to check my pace and distance while I was running. Then come home and look at the info on the computer???? WAY COOL! And my vibrating timer that told me when to walk and when to run worked out perfectly. I think the BodyBugg has got to go, though. It is really irritating my arm. I am going to try switching straps to see if that helps. Also, running in my yoga pants has got to go. I bought some Reebok running pants (spandex) that are so comfortable, but I have to get over my "fat girls shouldn't wear spandex" mentality.... That's ridiculous.
It's kind of fun discovering what works for me and what doesn't. I used to be a "treadmill only" kind of girl, but I am really REALLY loving road running. I was surprised to see that I naturally kept my pace between 9:30 -10:30 miles the whole hour I ran. On the treadmill it feels like the 12 min mile was all I could handle.
Hope everybody had a Merry Christmas! I am spending the week trying to detox... get all of the sugary junk food out of my system so I do not crave it. It's always tough to get started, but I have done it many times before and I know once I do it again the weight will start to drop and my clothes will fit better again.
