INSIGHT: Dress Bad/Feel Bad; Dress Good/Feel Good (with photos)

Wednesday, December 01, 2010

So, today I was thrilled to be back at my lowest weight when I weighed in this morning...139.5! So, it's also wonderful to be in the 130's, which I only saw for a couple of days about a month ago. And, I'm only .5 pounds from losing 20 pounds and 3.5 pounds from my original goal weight. I felt GREAT! emoticon

I was going to take my daughter to the gym after we finished our homeschooling for the day. But, I could hardly make myself do anything. And, I started snacking on things without being hungry and without being wise. How could I sabatoge myself when I'd felt so wonderful just a few hours earlier? emoticon

I finally managed to drag myself upstairs and put on my workout clothes, and I was shocked. I felt so much better! And, I saw myself in the mirror and thought that I was looking really good! It was then that I had my major insight... emoticon

This is how I'd been dressed while doing school today. I had an old t-shirt on that is too big. And, I had on some sweats that I'd bought last year and I thought were nice and cozy. Well, now they are BIG!!! I can hardly tie them tight enough to stay on. No wonder I was feeling lousy. I LOOKED lousy!

When I got dressed to workout, I looked like this! What a difference! I think I look really good in this outfit. I look fit and the clothes actually fit. And, I was ready to go workout and look even better!

So, I really learned a lesson today. I often just throw on comfy clothes to do school in, but I don't look very good. And, I don't fix my hair (I put my hair in a ponytail before taking the photos today) or put on makeup. I know I'd feel a lot better if I were wearing clothes that made me look 'good!' And, for one thing, I really need to go buy some new clothes... after almost 20 pounds my clothes just don't fit any more!

If you are having a tough day and don't feel like doing much and are still in your sweats (or PJs or whatever you hang out in), maybe you should try getting dressed up nice. Fix your hair. Put on some makeup. Get dressed in nice clothes (that fit!) or your gym clothes (which should look nice and make you feel good). I bet you'll notice a difference. I sure did!

As a homeschooling family I had to learn early on that how you dress determines much about how you will feel. I made it an a principle in our home that just because we are staying home does not mean that we should not dress our best (casual). After all we wouldn't go to town in our PJ's ( well, in our culture some do, sorry to say) It really does make a difference in the mental performance of not only you but also of your children. So In our family we get up and read and then get dressed before breakfast then do clean up then start school. House is tidy and children look tidy, It just makes the day start off fresh and smooth. When we have skipped this morning routine it shows in everything from our dress to out attitudes.

I am encourage by your blog and your learning to run. I am interested in learning to run. I always feel better when I am done with my walking if I put a few minutes of running into it.

Oh girl, you are SO right on! I agree 10000000%! I'm guilty of lounging around in my flannel jammy pants and sweatshirts and a ponytail all the time when I'm home. I ask myself 'Why bother' since I'm unemployed and home much of the time anyway but have noticed that when I put some effort into myself I feel WAY better. Today I had to don my snazzy suit and heels and do my hair and makeup for an interview and I almost felt attractive. Almost. :)

Thanks for the awesome reminder to spend time on ourselves FOR ourselves. We're worth it!

You are so so right!! I n the first picture you actually look heavier than the bottom one too. And I know this in the back of my mind- but doing it so difficult. I feel better when I wear my jeans and fitting t-shirts instead of my PJs, but as soon as the weather turns cooler, I change into my PJs earlier and earlier in the day and then wonder why I feel lazy!!

Good observation, BTW- looking good with the weight loss-heres wishing you reach goal soon.
