My name is Angela, and I like to eat

Evening all! In my quest to muddle through my crazy feelings about food, I had another thought tonight.

I could be 120 pounds. Heck, I could probably even get to 115 pounds. But I like to eat. A lot. I like things with sugar and fat, even though I'm currently trying to avoid them. I like to eat more than three bites, like many diet magazines will tell you to do with your favorite foods. Screw three bites, I want the whole slice of cheesecake! So, maybe what I need to do is decide what I want more -- the smaller number on the scale and in my pants or a higher weight and the foods I love.

I wish it were that simple, but it's not. The weight is creeping up ever so slowly. If I could be 128-130 and maintain, I would be okay, but I'm not there and I don't know how to force myself to get there. Ugh. Portion control is my total weakness.

    My name is Linda, and I eat too much chocolate!! I am getting it under control a little better by buying 60 calorie Pillsbury Sweet Moment brownie bites (YUM) and fat free fudgsicles. Every little change will make a difference over time. Good luck to you.

    It doesn't have to be an either/or. You just have to compensate for the indulgences. If you don't want to cut out your favourite foods, then don't. You're not on a diet, but trying to live a healthier lifestyle. If it means exercising more to counteract the "not so healthy" foods, then be prepared to do that. Or....indluge once a week. Don't forget...it's not about deprivation, is about sanity.

    I love sweets too. It is one of my big vices. However, over the series of years and the weight creeping up ever so slowly I now find myself just trying to get out of the obese range and into the overweight range for BMI. It took years and years to get here, but I kept liking the sweets more than my health.

    And as you get older, your body tends to revolt. It doesn't bounce back like it did when you were younger.

    I think each of us has to figure out what works best for them. I take half as much as I normally would, or I read the ACTUAL serving size (like for ice cream) and stick to it. Otherwise I will go way overboard.

    Certain things I just don't touch anymore because I have no control. I can no longer drink diet soda because I drink it to excess. That's just what works for me.

    I love food also, but I am learning that I can't love it that much. My weight creeps up on me also. I too have to watch portion control. Keep focused and you will succeed.
