    In neuroscience there's a term used: "TOP DOWN" Processing

    Top-down processing is our power to consciously determine such things as what we pay attention to, what we will think about in any given moment, and what actions we'll take (even which internal impulses we will obey).

    Weak top-down ability means we are subject to robotic obedience to conditioned, mechanical, repetitive patterns of thoughts, impulses, and self-talk that is actually recorded in our brains. The lower we are on the scale of willful Attention Control, the stronger the influence of these conditioned, recorded patterns upon our moment-to-moment existence.

    The stronger our ability to consciously control ('operate', 'drive') our Attention, the more control we have over what we'll do when faced with any form or temptation to go off course or betray our objectives.

    As you most effectively stated, FOCUS IS EVERYTHING!
