Rev Up Challenge

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

As part of the BLC 14 Challenge, I need to write a "rev up challenge" blog. The rev stands for (R)est, (E)xercise and (V)ideo. I needed to get 7+ hours of rest, get in at least 30 minutes of cardio and try out one of the sparkpeople videos. This was only a 4 day challenge to cover Friday - Monday and I really enjoy them! They help keep me focused over the weekend, which is much more difficult for me than the weekdays.

I did great on Friday and Saturday but I dropped the ball on Sunday. I had good intentions of getting my cardio in on Sunday but due to my daughter's swim meet and the warm weather, it just didn't happen. I usually get in a long run on Saturday mornings but my running buddy had to go out of town and so I decided to sleep in instead. Not necessarily the best plan.

I am definitely struggling with this plateau. I am really going to have to get focused with my exercise and change up the routine. I think my body is used to the long runs and cardio. I know I need to focus on strength training but this is tough for me. I really just don't like it much. I am thinking that those bodypump classes at the gym might be the answer. Now, I just need to fit them into my CRAZY hectic schedule!

I am glad that this challenge is helping me stay focused though!

Definitely see if that class works. I have never been able to develop a weights routine on my own, but LOVE going to Bodyworks at LA Fitness. In fact, I've been unable to get to it consistently lately, and I miss it (and wonder if I need to get through the mental barrier I just mentioned and Just Do It On My Own!).

I too am making a change - finally got my gym membership back so we will be hitting the ST again! looking forward to winter and a little less running. right now I am doing 20 miles a week. ooking to get this body toned for next year - more halfs and of course HTC 2011....

Leah good luck and we are here to support you my friend. I loved the body pump classes - my new new gym doesn't offer them but I always like them - spinning is also good!

I have been dealing with the same thing -I think my body is too used to running. I too am going to try to hit the lift class at my gym - so much more fun than making myself lift alone. Best of luck fitting it into your schedule - I know how difficult that is. Nice thing with exercize- I don't know anyone who ever regrets doing it when it's done (that's what I've been telling myself)! We can motivate each other! WE CAN DO IT!

Sounds as if you need more than one running buddy to cover for those "challenging" days or a digital alarm clock that always goes off at the same time every morning because you can't figure out how to work it. hehe
Good luck with your challenge!!!!!! emoticon

Good honesty in your blog. Doing a bit of retrospection helps to see what can be done to improve. The challenge has helped me to see some areas I can improve on and I'm counting on seeing results.
All the best and great to have you on CAMO!

Ooh! You have to tell me how those classes go, I'm a-scared! ;D I need to do strength training, too! My recent drop in cardio resulted in some drop in muscle. Ugh. So I'm right there with ya, chickie!

You can do it. You're SUPER DUPER AWESOME!!
Meanwhile, I think I might video record myself doing some push-ups and leg lifts and stuff... Nothing like recorded truth to show progress after I **BUILD**SOME**MUSCLE**!! Yeah, maybe that will be nice. We'll see.

Congrats on your BLC challenge, sounds like you're really using it! :)

Good luck to you in your challenge.
