The good, the bad, the results, new goals and a celebration

Monday, September 06, 2010

Well, this week my goals were to have a fresh start. I knew I couldn't flip a switch and do it all at once. So, this week my goals were to get back into exercising. I was hoping to get in at least 3 days. My results??? I ran 3 days and did strength training one day. emoticon

My other goal was to track everything I ate...the good, the bad, and the really bad. emoticon

Tuesday = in my ranges
Wednesday = way under ranges
Thursday = 350 cal over
Friday = in my ranges
Saturday = way, way over
Sunday = over by 100

It seems that when I hit my calorie range, I was within all the other ranges as well. If I was over just a bit, it usually threw off one of my other areas just a bit.

I will have my official weigh in tomorrow with the other teachers at my school. However, as of right now, I'm up 3 pounds this week. I was really disappointed. I know that I need to do a better job with my eating, but I did really well with my fitness and I really only blew it one day.

Here are my new goals for next week
1. run 3 days (I've been running 2.5 miles and walking 1.5 miles. My goal is to be able to run 4 miles straight.)
2. strength train 2-3 days
3. plan my meals so I have a better chance of staying in my ranges and no late night eating

Now, my celebration...my husband got a new position in his company. He will be starting his new job tomorrow. He will finally be on a day shift job. We have been married for 16 years and for about 14 of those years he has worked either night shift of swing shift. The kids and I are so excited to have him home in the evenings. Now he can go to parent/teacher conferences, basketball practices, swimming lessons, help with homework, baths, etc... I don't have to try to keep the kids quiet in the mornings because he is trying to sleep. We don't have to have important conversations in 5-10 min increments over our lunch half hours or wait until the weekend to talk about these kinds of things.

It will take his body a while to adjust to getting up at 4:00 AM to be to work at 5:30 (rather than going in for 3 PM-1 AM). Now he'll work until 3:30 so he can be home to get the kids off the bus if I have a late meeting or if I'm taking a class or teaching a night class.

He is really excited about the new job. This is just so great for our family. I know there will be kinks that we will have to work out, but I'm just so excited that I'll actually see him every night and we'll be able to talk. This may seem a little strange if you haven't had your husband/wife e work a different shift than you do, but if you've been in this situation, I'm sure you can understand my excitement. emoticon emoticon

    I so happy for you and your family about your husbands new position. It makes such a BIG difference in the quality of life....even though I'm sure it will take some adjusting to. Great Job on the turnaround too!!! Just stay focused and you'll be fine. Remember, it's about the progress, not perfection!

    HUGE improvement. It's got to be so hard to deal with different time shifts.
