Week 2 Assessment...

Wednesday, September 01, 2010

So, I am in week 2 of SparkPeople, and the community here has been great. And, I am trying to do everything according to the plan that SparkPeople set up for me (ie workout plan, eating plan). Overall, I have been eating more than I have in a long time and working out less. Now that I am in week 2, I have lost a "net" 2 pounds which is a little bit under the goal rate of 2 pounds a week that I want to maintain. So, since I feel GREAT on the eating plan, I think I need to ramp up the workouts a bit. I am not used to working out so little and when I did the math at what SparkPeople has me eating and the weekly calories they have me burning, it will take a lot longer for me to reach my goal. I think I will add more cardio as currently they only have me on Mon, Wed, Fri....

...any other ideas from the SparkPeople greats? I welcome more advice to help achieve my goals...

I have found that the professional advice I get from a personal trainer has me eat a lot less than what Sparkpeople will suggest and that Spark gives way too much caloric credit to my defined workouts. If you have a HRmonitor that gives you precise calories and you can truly plan what you do, you might get more realistic eating plans with your workout load being what you "like."

Are you also welcoming comments from SparkPeople "less than greats"?

I got the impression that you actually stepped down your workouts to match the spark workout plan because you added that you're not used to working out so little. If that is the case I would guess that you might have slowed your metabolism by taking your activity level down a notch. My thought would be that your workout should be at least as vigorous as it was before starting the diet, otherwise your body will adapt to the drop by turning down your metabolism.

Sounds like you are doing very well. I try to find activities on the weekends, like camping and hiking supplement the workouts I do during the weeks. This Saturday my daughter has long run (16miles) so I will ride my bike to keep her company.
