Interval Training on the Treadmil

Ok.... I had to keep telling myself that I was NOT going to fall off of the treadmil!


I have heard that interval training for running is great to help you increase your speed. This is what I am looking for so my running group are trying to incorporate more of this through out the week. Well today it is HOT in Minnesota. It was a high of 82 and the humidity level was at 71%.... YIKES! emoticon

So running outside was NOT an option today. Especially working in sprints. So my friend and I head over to the gym to do our sprint training on the treadmil. I am not a treadmil runner and have only done it once with my trainer. So I was a little unsure. But once we got going, it wasn't too bad. My friend kept on laughing at me though because I was running so close to the screen. (Just wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to fly off the back!)

We did 30 - 60 second intervals. We would run at a speed of 5-6 on the treadmil for one minute and then would crank it up between 8-9 for 30 - 45 seconds. We did this for 30 minutes and I was dripping with sweat by the time we were done. But it was a great run..... just didn't like the feeling after stepping off the machine.

It took me a few minutes because I was dizzy from running in place for so long. And probably because I really don't run on treadmils.

We finished up with heading up to the weight room and doing some bi-cep and tri-cep work. - Great way to cool down!

I think I like the treadmil though and will probably try to incorporate it more in my workouts. It will help out greatly once the snow starts flying for sure!

    So glad you posted this!! I have been thinking about exercising during the winter months and have a treadmill. I wasn't sure it would do the trick but reading your blog tells me it that it is.

    Wow, amazing speed!! I want to be you when I grow up!!
    I like the treadmill for the instant feedback. I always know where I stand with it. The running trail, on the other hand, doesn't keep me from starting out too fast and burning out before mile one is over. (I know, that's my problem and I have to figure it out!) But running outdoors is calming and enjoyable, where treadmill running is a workout!

    So glad you got in such a great training run even with all the heat and humidity!!

    Wow! I jog at 5 and my sprints are at 6. I think I would go flying off if I moved it up to 8 or 9. Good for you!

    I've been contemplating doing the same. I hear it's also amazing or the calorie burn.
