Practicing Willpower

Sunday, August 08, 2010

Well, I finally updated my nutrition tracker here - it's been a while since I've used it & always curse myself when I don't. It's such a great resource to keep me in touch with reality - it is so hard for me to rationalize at times...

Friday night, DH asked me to go out to a movie. We went to see Inception (which was a great movie, by the way in my opinion!) And I can never enter a movie theatre without ordering popcorn (I usually get the uber small bag), but since I am on my cleanse this week I had no intention of getting one.

Just as I walk past the delicious smell of freshly popped, slathered in thick artery-clogging butter, DH says it... "Do you want popcorn?" UM - NO!!!!!!! But, yes I REALLY do!!! I muffle a small "yes" out of my lips & immediately fill with regret. He places the order and I tell him NO butter. He repeats what I say to the attendant & we go on our merry way.

When the movie starts, I reach in the bag and pop one piece in my mouth. YUM!!!! OMG I can't control myself!!! But I do. I pop in one more and focus on the screen. About 10 in, I reminded myself that I'm cleansing and I just can't do it so I give the bag to him and he devours it. Part of me wanted to slap him and take it back, but I remained in control and listened to my stomache growl for the rest of the movie.

This morning I was down another 2 lbs. - Take that you mean old calorie waster!

I found this on a WebMD website:

"Researchers sent samples of popcorn and toppings from three different theaters belonging to each of the chains to an independent lab for analysis and compared their findings to the chains' own nutritional information.

The results showed Regal's medium and large popcorns packed the biggest punch, with each containing 20 cups of popcorn, 1,200 calories, and 60 grams of saturated, artery-clogging fat. That's the equivalent of two Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pepperoni Pizzas, plus an extra two days' worth of saturated fat." YUCK!

Ya, but bringing air-popped popcorn into a movie theatre isn't something that I really want to do... I love making popcorn at home - I get those 100 calorie packs which are great! I'm just glad that I can resist the temptation to eat the whole bag & stick with just a few pieces :)

Having popcorn at home is healthier (& cheaper too). You can control the calories. Airpopped is not bad. Personally, I like my popcorn naked! Sometimes I will sprinkle some Kernal Season's flavoring on it. You can order that online. They have several flavors.
