Food tips to somebody new to the US?

Thursday, August 05, 2010

So, I've been in the US for 1,5 days now. This far I've eaten out since I'm not really ready and don't have much to cook with or anything :P

But a trip to the store today left me somewhat confused and stuff, cause everything is shiny and new (Even trying to make my head grasp what's expensive and not is hard enough, currency change not yet in place, hah) and that was just the small grocery store.
I visited Walmart today and I didn't even venture into the HUGE food area, I just got my phone and headed out again. LOL

So, ramble aside, have some good healthy food recommendations for somebody new to this interesting country?
A lot of what I used to make back home I can still make here by going from scratch, other things though I'll need relearning :P
Is the Lean Cusine stuff any good? Both health and taste wise :P It's not something I'd live off, but might be good now that I have limited kitchen availability :)

Tip #1: Stay away from the fast food restaurants. They will kill you!
Tip #2: Stay in the perimeters of the grocery stores. Eat lots of fresh produce. Canned food has too much sodium. Refined foods have too little nutrition.
