C25K W5D1 and Jumping Rope

Thursday, July 22, 2010

I completed C25K (couch to 5K) W5D1 today! It includes three 5 minute runs, but I changed the last 5 minutes into 8 minutes. I was amazed! It wasn't hard! I never started breathing hard and my HR only got up to 151! It's been getting up to 160-162 lately. But, I was going really slow. In fact, I wanted to ask another runner if I was actually running. It just felt so slow, so easy, so natural! Maybe I found my stride??? emoticon

I mentioned on my feed yesterday that I played with a bosu, stability ball and jump rope with my daughter for almost an hour last night. Well, one thing I did was to jump rope for 5 minutes! Now, that's hard! My HR was up to 162. I think I'll be adding jumping rope to my exercise schedule. That was something I LOVED as a child (like riding a bike and swimming!) and I'll enjoy the exercise, though it is hard!

emoticon job on the run! I knew you could do it!! A baby could crawl backwards faster than my jog speed on the long runs right now but I figure if I keep moving, it's a jog. We can work on speed later!

Keep up the awesome work! You'll probably catch me in week 6 - the Tri last night threw off my schedule and I haven't started yet. See you there!

As long as you are picking up one foot before the other strikes, you are running! Doesn't matter how slow you are going at all...you very well may have found your stride!!!

Keep at that speed for a while and eventually it will start to feel too easy (you'll be able to easily talk or your breathing will be very slow) and you'll know it is time to start speeding up a little. It will come very naturally if you continue listening to your body and going at a pace that is comfortable and sustainable. :-)

Awesome - you're becoming a real runner! Way to go!!!

I'm always amazed at how hard jumping rope is! And to think we spent hours doing that as kids! It is a major work out... emoticon

Great Job on your running! I have a question, did you struggle in week 4 at all? I just finished week 4 day 2 but I can only do the first 3 min then the first 5 min, after that I barely make it through two mins each. I am impressed by being able to do that first 5 as I didn't think I would be able to but am frustrated not being able to finish even the second 3 min interval. Any advice would be great :)
