We started out our day by meeting Rose and Bruce at Fireside for breakfast. Jacklyn came along with us and then enroute we dropped her off at my Mom's and continued on our way.
Two of us couples got into our rooms early and they were out onto the patio, the other two were across the hall from us, so they had to cut through our rooms all weekend. Oh well, you just have to make some sacrafices here and there I guess! lol
We tee'd off about a half an hour later than we were suppose to, because of a back log of groups. I golfed the 18 holes, but was really feeling it all the way through with my ribs. Shot better than I thought I would, but still not good. You have one good shot, then a bad shot and then another good one. It's the good ones that keep you coming back for more torchure! lol
After golf we sat around on the patio and had a few drinks and some conversation and then finally convinced the guys to go and get the Swiss Chalet for supper, but Bruce didn't want to go along and we needed him to, so Rose made sure that he stayed in the room to watch some soccer as the rest of us girls got out the decorations and started decorating the patio area.
Last year it was Bruce's and Bill's 50th birthdays and they let them pass without letting anyone know they each had milestone birthdays. Well, when I got wind of that, I thought those buggars aren't getting away with that that easy, so I planned a small little party to honor both of them. Rose and I got the decorations and I brought them along with us.
Of course, Bruce comes out onto the patio and asks what's going on so we all looked stunned at him and then said Belated Happy Birthday. Well, he dumb founded, but grinning form ear to ear! We popped a hat on him, handed him a drink and carried on with the decorations.
When Bill and Frank arrived back with the chicken dinners, Bill asked what was going on too, and we then popped a hat on him too and sat him down with a drink and explained that neither one of them was getting away easy on their 50th birthdays, so this was in honor of both of them.
Bill had been in pain for the last 24 hours with kidney stones and this was the first time all day I actually saw a smile on his face. Was glad to see that too!
After supper was done and we brought all of the dishes to the garbage can, now that's the way I prefer to do dishes, lol, we brought out the cake Jack and I had picked up. It was a nice light boston cream cake with fruit on top and looked very summery!
A candle with the number 50 adorned the top of it as we all sang Happy Birthday to the two boys. There was just enough cake there for all of us to have a piece and it was delicious.
Then I brought out two gift bags and cards for each of them. Now this was just a little something I had picked for both of them while we were in Florida this past winter. They each got a yellow golf shirt from I-Zod golf clothing. They both look good in that colour.
Bills cards said something about what do you want Edith, who is in a bikini or your birthday cake, so make up your mind. You open the card and it says, because you can't have your cake and Edith too! lol
I was beside Bruce when he opened his card, which also had a bikini clad woman on it saying, I'll bet I know what you want after eating your birthday cake...then Bruce looked at Rose and said yeah a nap, he opened up the card and it said A NAP! It couldn't have been more perfect! We all laughed so hard.
All of the other rooms facing out onto the patio had all guys in them and because of all of the decorations, they all at one point or another, made their way down to us asking who was turning 50 and congratulated both of the guys. Some even sat down with us and shared a drink and some conversation. It was a lot of fun!
We cleaned up the mess and took down the decorations, had a couple more drinks out on the patio and lots more conversation and then we called it a night.
Up early in the morning, met everyone in the dining room for breakfast, minus Bill, who was still in a great deal of pain. As it turned out he wasn't going to golf that day and since I too was hurting I decided to bow out myself. So the other six went out.
It was the kind of day that was misty and the occassional little rain, but nothing that would keep you from getting your 18 holes of golf in.
So while the others were out golfing and Bill was resting, I laid down and had a little sleep myself, watched some TV, tried to make an appointment for a massage, but wasn't successful. Took a walk over to the gift shop, looked through it a bit, bought some Cheetos to drown my sorrows in and before I knew it the gang were back.
Sat outside on the patio again, had a few more wobbly pops (not me), ate some artichoke and asiago dip with french bread and watermelon I brought along. Then we all had to get ready to go out for supper.
I had made reservations at this little restaurant in Alliston called Europa Restaurant. It serves German and Italian food. We all had eaten there before about three years ago and enjoyed it.
Wore my new dress I bought in Florida also and got so many compliments from everyone, I just couldn't handle it. lol
Jack ordered the rolladen and I ordered the Jager Schnitzel with spaezle and sauerkraut. I tasted Jack's rolladen and it was really good too and tender, but as nice as Jack is, tells me that mine is better! lol You just have to love a guy like that don't you? Rose and I split a litre of white wine.
Then off up the road about 20 minutes almost into Barrie to Georgian Downs where everyone bet on the ponies and I slipped into the casino to try my luck. I walked out of there after three hours, down a total of $10.00. Went to find the others at the raceway and then Jack asked if I was going to bet on the horses this race. Well I hadn't thought about it, but I said sure. Looked at the board and thought okay #4 across the board and that was my bet.
The horses were off and running and I asked one of them that had a program what the name of my horse was, because I had no idea! lol Still couldn't tell you it's name now! Anyway, it was a semi long shot and the darned thing came in first place, so each one of my bets won me money. I walked away with winnings of $26.00 and for the night was broke even after calculating what Jack had spent also. So not a bad night all in all!
We all got back to the hotel, tired, so us girls turned in and the boys went out on the patio to have a night cap and then they too called it a night.
Met everyone again for breakfast in the diningroom and again Bill wasn't going to golf, but this time I was going to try it. I got in a total of seven holes and just couldn't do another swing, so I called it quits myself. Instead I manned the flag poles for the rest of the girls and did a few dances with it too! lol Then I started twirling it and marching in one spot and Jack was on the tee off waving at me to stop it. I almost bust a gut, literally, laughing at him flipping out at me.
Pain and all, I still had a nice time, but hey, any time with good friends is always a nice time.
Made our way home and arrived at my Mom's a little after six. They were all ready to go out for supper as we had planned on the golf course via Jacklyn's text message. So as payment for looking after Jacklyn for the weekend, we took Mom and Harry out for supper. Where did they want to go? Yup, you guessed it...Swiss Chalet! lol
Done for another year now!
