As promised, here's the report on our trip to Red Rocks to see Big Head Todd and the Monsters in concert....
The short report is that the concert was really great, at least for me it was. My husband didn't like it as much as I did, but the fact that it wasn't his favorite band in the world is only a part of the reason for that.
I'd never been to a concert at Red Rocks amphitheater before. I went to college just down the road at the University of Colorado for 3 semesters so I have absolutely no explanation for why I had never gone to a concert in Red Rocks while I was living in Boulder. Guess I'm just strange....but then most of you probably already knew that.
So anyway, Red Rocks is amazing. One of these days we're going to have to go back there and visit the park, which is absolutely gorgeous. But for now the amphitheater is just an incredible place to see a concert. It holds 9450 people and I'm sure that the show was sold out. The weather was pretty good, though we did get rained on twice. The second time it rained pretty hard for a short while, and my husband decided to go sit under some cover near the bathrooms for the rest of the concert. (Guess he was afraid that he would melt....)
The first band that played was Bodeans, a favorite group of mine for the last 20 years or so. They were sort of a bonus because I had not been aware that they were going to be the opening band when I bought the tickets. The people sitting near me were nice and I had a good time chatting with them while my hubby was using the bathroom and/or hiding from the rain.
Big Head Todd was really great. After my husband went to hide from the rain for the second half of the concert a couple of guys (one of them pretty drunk) started flirting with me and offering to buy me beers, which I declined because I don't drink. (Also wouldn't want to have a man other than my hubby buying me drinks of any kind....) I told my husband about that after the concert and he told me that those rowdy drunk guys were the main reason why he went to hang out on the stairs after the second time it started raining. Oh well. For me it was still a really great concert. If I can get July 5th off from work we'll probably go back up there to see Blues Traveller on July 4th.
Big Head Todd played a really long set, which to me was pretty cool. But it did get us out of the park and back to our hotel pretty late. (About 1:00 am.) We got up around 7:00 or 8:00 yesterday morning, ate breakfast, and then spent 7 hours driving back to Albuquerque. The driving is the part of the trips that I never like, but Julian did all of it (both ways) which made it nicer for me. (I really hate to drive, especially long distances and at night.)
So that's my report. Now I'm going to Best Buy to pick up the new computer that I bought there this afternoon.
