Ever smelled wisteria?
Tuesday, March 30, 2010
Here in Texas we don't have lilacs but we do have wisteria. It's just as pretty and stands up to the heat a lot better. Usually it's high in the trees but I found some today while I was out walking that draped down almost to the ground. I tugged the small furry one over so we could look at it more closely. It really is a beautiful flower but boy does it not have a pleasant scent. Unfortunately, I didn't know wisteria smelled bad and had put my face fully in it to take in a whiff. It's not skunk cabbage but it's definitely not lilacs.
Next time I'll just sniff on the honeysuckle and jasmine.
The late and multiple freezes we had here in Houston this winter have confused the Spring flowers. It's sort of a mixed blessing because my allergies seem to be confused, too. A lot of the trees, like the red buds, haven't done anything yet. But those dogwoods are finally out and they are so pretty. Just in time for Easter.
