Not on the Menu :0(

Saturday, March 27, 2010

I will admit to being one of those people who pick up the "help" books and stores and skim them. A while back I looked through the Eat this not that restaurant guide.
So when we made an impromptu decision to eat at Chili's tonight I remembered what ETNT said so I felt prepared.
I am an impatient restaurant customer (unless out with friends) I like to look at the menu while waiting for my seat and have my choices ready when the waitress first comes. So imagine my dismay when the hostess proudly gave me their new menu and I discovered my safety meal wasn't in there. It jus so happens that the Chicken Caesar Pita is my daughter's favorite thing to order so she was disappointed as well when it was missing. I had her talk to the hostess (part of that preparing my senior for the world life lesson moment). Next thing we see her talking to the mgr and explaining how she loved this dish and how her mom is limited in what she can eat and was looking forward to it (her words). She came back beaming that even though it isn't on the menu we can get it made for us we just have to explain to the waitress.
Disaster averted ~~NOT. Our waitress must be fairly new as she had no idea what we were talking about, even though we told her to talk to the mgr. What she brought out looked nothing like what we wanted and had melted cheese, sautéed peppers and onions on it. I took one bite and decided not only wasn't I going to waste calories on something I didn't want or really like I wasn't going to pay for it ether. Flagged her down explained and she said she'd fix it. Now thankfully she wasn't a very good waitress. You see my family LOVES chilis chips and it is bottomless. Normally they are very good at keeping them full~she wasn't. so while husband and meg ate their food we had an empty basket in between us instead of salty chips.
We did eventually get our pitas~~they were wonderful. I couldn't remember the nutrition info so I only ate half to be safe~~~700 calories in whole thing (which I still had in day) oh well~~Lunch tomorrow

Lesson learned: if item is no longer on menu it doesn't hurt to ask!!!

BTW only took one bite of one chip and decided it wasn't worth the calories and mine are better

CONGRATS. It is so awesome to be prepared when you go out to eat. I will tell you like my md told me, "You are learning". Now instead of grabbing for a chocolate bar or some other junk food, I stop to think is it worth it. Most of the times it is not and I end up eating something healthy.

Isn't it great to see that our minds are slowly starting to think differently

Well done! Good job training your senior to deal with the real world, too!

Way to keep making good choices! I'll have to remember this tip the next time I go to Applebees.
