A new normal

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

I'm on my first business trip since I've gotten SERIOUS about this lifestyle change. Everything feels different. For one, when I have a treat, I really recognize it as such, and I don't use the dialogue, "I deserve that", to justify it. I am working HARD on my workouts since I know that I am eating more. I took a few hours to give my work friend a tour of my alma mater and surrounding town today..we got in at least an extra hour of cardio from that, plus the weights I did first thing this morning. I had a fancy dinner tonight, and bread, and dessert. You know how I feel? Uncomfortable. And thats a GREAT feeling. Because I'm not thinking, "wow, I want to do that again!". I have avoided sugar enough that it just doesn't taste right in my mouth and my throat is seriously dry/swollen. I know its crazy, but I'm thrilled. That will keep me from what I used to do...which was to eat like this every few days.. I'm excited to eat exactly what I should be so that this weekend's weigh in will be as good as possible.

OK, I'll be back to my active self in a few more days. Enjoying work and seeing the improvements people have made in their lives as a result of our program. This is the FUN part of our job :)

Congratulations! What a great feeling that must be emoticon
I felt that way yesterday about one of my favorite snacks--chocolate covered pretzels -- they tasted like wax covered pretzels
emoticon I'll eventually try to make my own emoticon

It's amazing how our tastes change as our lifestyle changes. One thing I've learned on this vacation is to ask. I've pretty much always just accepted what was instead of asking for what I need. That's all changed for this vacation. It will shape every other restaurant experience in my life from this moment on. I'm glad you are sticking with your workouts. I find vacations or even business trips when I like to switch it up a bit. I'm out of my usual routine and in a strange gym. Today I did the elliptical and ran. I never run. I hope your trip continues to go well.

Good for you! I'm at that similar place where when I see food around me that used to tempt me, I don't even crave/want it because I'm content with how I'm fueling myself.

What do you do to help improve people's lives via your work?
