New Knee is misbehaving

Saturday, February 13, 2010

Gosh I have learned to love my daily gym time, the routine of going in the morning, the great cardio workout, even the sweating part and now suddenly my usual routine will have to be changed.

It seems that the tendons, muscles and ligaments are loose so not holding the knee steady when being used. So for the next three weeks that knee is in a immobilizer to relieve the tension. Now the daily challenge is putting on my shoes.

First thing monday morning I am headed back to the gym to talk to the staff for alterations in my workout. Until then I have directions from my physical therapist on lower body exercises that are workable but I am missing that cardio workout. This is going to be a three week challenge.

How many of you have learned to love your daily workout? How many of you thought that would not be possible? Surprised yourself did you not!

Yolanda, you're so right! My back has been bothering me, making it hard for me to walk, let alone work out... though nothing like what you're dealing with, of course. It throws off my whole day when I can't just go work out or go out and walk for miles. Glad you're attacking this instead of letting it beat you!

I remember when I first started Sparks........ I hated exercise and even joined a group for... "I hate exercise"........ Now I have got into it...... and really look forward to my cardio time..... I hope they can find some kind of exercise you will be able to do while your knee is getting back in shape... emoticon

Sorry you have that complication. I want to get into a gym program of some sort, but for now I am enjoying the walking with my new knee. I do have a couple exercises the Therapist gave me. I hope things go well for you. Maybe I have been too cautious!

I do enjoy my workouts and miss them when I can't do them. I understand completely. This, however, is just a temporary setback for you and not a permanent time out. You'll be full steam ahead in no time.

Love my daily work out? No. I workout on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. I have began to enjoy the feeling of knowing that I can jog for twenty minutes or that I can walk up and down the steps of my apartment building for 10 to 15 minutes. I don't enjoy the fact that it makes my legs kind of stiff at times though. I am glad that you have been enjoying your workouts.
I hope you find some exercises that you can do that doesn't involve the knee for a while.
