Sundays Are Awesome!

Today I have to talk about taking time for myself. My week has been crazy busy at work. I'm behind in my MBA homework, all of which is due by midnight tonight. Things at home need to be done. Everything was put on hold this week. Can you say overwhelmed.

Here is what helps me get through it and I am so grateful it does not happen this way often:

Yesterday morning, I took 30 minutes to myself before I ever really got my day started. I made myself a chai tea latte, did some slow, deep breathing, and made my gratitude list. After all, work may be very crazy, but: (a) I have a job; (b) I have a GREAT job that I really like; (c) I have great benefits; (d) my company really believes in work-life balance; and last but not least, (e) this only happens about once every 1-2 years, and it too shall pass.

Then when I got home last night, only an 8-hour day on a Saturday after several 14 hours days, I took ANOTHER 30 minutes to myself and stopped on my way home to walk in the fresh, very crisp winter air to clear my head. Then I came home and did 1-1/2 of 4 assignments that are due by midnight tonight.

Today, I took most of the morning off. I had some more time to myself, including a 60-minute fast-paced walk/workout, a few typical weekend phone chats with family and friends, and brunch out with my sweetie and a couple of friends.

Now I'm writing my little blog and plan to get back to work. I am almost half-way through my assignments now and can see a light at the end of the tunnel.

So, what is my point, you may ask? In short, breathe, make time for yourself AND for exercise, even if it's just 30 minutes (or less, if need be), be grateful for what is going RIGHT (which to me constitutes a positive attitude) and it will get you through a lot of difficult things.

    I thrive on sunshine and there is none today...but I did go out and shovel snow and take time to myself. You are so right Stephanie about that combination. Thanks for your inspiring post, it has moved me to go do my scheduled bowflex workout.

    It is also encouraging to remember challenging times do pass.

    I'm with you Steph!! My horoscope this morning said my list was so long that I would get frustrated today unless I just focused on one thing at a time.

    So today, I decided to go to the Y and get my workout in and go shopping as all my suits are falling off of me. I bought one and only one.

    I have a huge project due today as I'm traveling this week and need to get it out the door by tonight so my staff can take it from there. So, kiddo, I'll be working all day with you :)
