question about HIIT

quick blog/question..
I am looking up new exercises and for future reference when I really want to get my body fat down and I was reading about HIIT. I dont want to sound dumb but this is done with running right? Sprinting super fast for a certain time then back to regular running then back up then down for a certain amount of time..am i understanding this correctly? Also, have any of you tried this and if so, what did ya think? Any input would be helpful and appreciated! Thanks friends!

    I thought this could be done with any exercise including weights. I do an interval running/walking program but I don't really know much about HIIT in particular. I definitely shed pounds far more quickly with 2 or 3 interval workouts per week. I'll be interested to see what others have to say. I'd like to learn more about it myself
