Happy New Year

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

I exist! Just a quick blog to keep everyone updated. I've been very active on my personal blog but not here.

Training is going really well for the half marathon, and I'm signed up now! It's a month from this weekend *crazycrazy*, and it feel like I just started training. Much different than last time. I've been doing a 3-run per week training program (google FIRST half marathon training if you're interested) and it's been AWESOME. I feel STRONG and FAST and my goal is to beat my time by at least 16 minutes (trying for a sub 2- hour half). Last week and this week were some pivotal runs in my training, so hopefully I can finish this week strong and then the pressure is off just a little.

What's not going so well is the scale and what's going in my mouth. I'm up about 5 lbs over what the tracker says. I did indulge a bit over the holidays and tried to get it under control last week but it also didn't work out so well. I'm back to tracking everything for a bit, hopefully that will help. I made a resolution that in 2010, I was going to give myself a year off needing to lose weight and 155 or below (maintenance range) was going to be a-ok. Unfortunately I started the year at 157.8 and it hasn't budged, so I'm back on the dole. :)

I do have to be very responsible about it though. When I'm burning close to 1000 calories per run (and 1400 for the long ones), I can't just eat how I usually do to take off weight. So I've set some guidelines. On my days off and 2 crosstrain (where I do 60 mins circuit training and 15-20 yoga) I'm trying for 1500 calories. On mid-distance (now 6-8 miles) days, I'm upping it to 2000. On Saturdays when I'm running double digits, I'm upping it to 2500. I'm just going to attempt to pile in the good food instead of thinking "hmmm, I can eat more today, where's the cake?"

That's about it. Back on tracking, hoping that I can lose the few extra lbs while still training, but not stressing too hard about it. Focusing on nomming mass quantities of good-for-me foods and letting the chips fall where they may until after Feb 14th! Hope everyone is doing great out there and having a lovely sparky day!

Could you have gained muscle? I would think this will all settle in eventually if you are reasonable, but certainly don't deprive yourself doing so much exercise!
