The Spark - In Stores Now!!!

Wednesday, December 30, 2009

Wow!!! What a day this has been!!! I am sooo excited about the recent release of "The Spark." As many of you know, I was fortunate enough to be included as one of the success stories!!! This is such a huge honor and I feel a bit undeserving as so many people have had even greater levels of success than I BUT NOBODY is more appreciative, humbled and honored by the inclusion. A HUGE thank you to Chris Downie aka Sparkguy and his fantastic staff (specifically Stefanie, Jenny, Nancy, Beth and Grant). They are AWESOME!

My day began with a fantastic 10 mile run. I started running at 5:55am and along the way I had the sun rising on the East and the beautiful waves on the West. It was a great way to start this epic day! I ran with two other people that I did not know from a meetup group. They were only going to run about 6 miles and they were faster than me. I figured I would just do my best and get in the miles. I ended up running a faster pace and still felt good finishing at the end. I consider this all a success!!!

I got on twitter when I got back and started to light things up on there talking about the book. I can't tell enough people about it. I truly believe it has the power to change lives and I want to spread that positive mojo everywhere!!!

A little while later it was time to take Tay to her swim practice. This was my opportunity to go scout out The Spark at the local Borders. Since I preordered mine months ago, I didn't realize I would not be in the office during the release date. I won't get my copy until I return to work on 1/4. I couldn't possibly contain my excitement and curiosity that long!!! I arrived at the store and expected to see it right off the bat but no cigar. I walked around and around before I asked one of the staff members to help me find it. It hadn't been put on the shelves yet but we uncovered a copy. I was so excited I couldn't help buy share my story with her. I opened the book and BOOYA! There I was!!! She seemed interested in my story and then she proceeded to say that she had the opposite problem...she couldn't keep weight on. Ummm, yeah. I have *NO* idea what that is like! It made me realize that we all struggle with our body image and I have to say mine has improved tremendously. I will share more about that in another post!

Another employee overheard me and joined in on the conversation. He thought it was awesome that a local resident was included in the book and I got to share a little bit about sparkpeople.com! I am all about spreadin the spark every chance I get! After that, I took a photo of my page and sent out a text to some family and friends! Some knew about the book and others did not. The response I got was amazing and so, so supportive. I am a very lucky girl!!! Those that didn't know about the spark or the website will get spammed with info tomorrow!! Watch out now! I also know that a couple of extra copies will be purchased because of that text message (pumps fist in the air)!!! Yay!

When I was getting ready to leave, I had to put the book back. There was a lady standing by the health/weight loss display and she was looking at a book called the Four Factor Diet or somethign like that. I walked up to her and said, "if you are looking to lose weight, all you need is this book right here!" LOL! She looked at me a little weird and I proceeded to spread the spark some more! I showed her my page and explained a little bit about the site. I then shared with her about the Spark San Diego team (gotta support the team efforts) and she seemed to be interested! I hope that she takes my advice and looks up the site.

After I picked Tay up from swim, she said she wanted to go to the bookstore to puchase a book with her Christmas money. I couldn't go back to Borders! I decided to take her to Barnes and Noble and snoop around to see if The Spark was displayed prominently! I am happy to report that it was!!! Yay!! So we looked around and bought her book and came home. I still can't believe that it is out there!!

On another related note, I made a big decision today! I purchased the study materials to become a Certified Personal Trainer!!! I am excited and scared all at the same time. It is even tough for me to write about. I like talking about things that are certain. Things that are in place. Things that are concrete. I know that by posting this it will be another level of accountability. When I put my mind to something, I do it! I do follow through and a big pet peeve of mine is when people say they are going to do things that they just don't do. I refuse to be "that" person. That alone will drive me to get this done.

I think the other thing is that I don't want to fail. Nobody does. I have learned recently that sometimes failure or lack of success is necessary for ultimate success or to learn valuable lessons. I am changing the way that I view failure. It is necessary and it should not be feared. Easier said than done but taking this step is a huge step toward acceptance and embracing the fear.

The cool thing is that I have plans to use this certificate to give back to the sparkpeople community. I hope to be able to provide more advice, knowledge and possibly small group classes for my fellow sparks!!! This is directly a result of reading "The Spark." That is why I decided to order the materials on the release date. It is my way of saying BRING IT ON!!! I pm utilizing the methods in the book for ultimate success.

The path that brought me to this point is pretty interesting. I will blog about it more specifically soon but it is genuinely a leap of faith. I feel that God gave me some signs that this is the path I need to take and here I am. Sometimes his plan reaches further than we can even imagine. I am ready for whatever He has in store for me. I believe that "The Spark" was His catalyst for change. You see, I have been wondering what my passion/purpose was and I think I know now. For many years I have said things like, "I wish I was one of those people that just knew what they wanted to be when they grew up" or "How come I don't feel passionate about anything?" These ideas and comments were regular occurances. I know why now. I had to endure part of a journey before that passion could be sparked!!!

I don't have all of the answers but I am sure they will be revealed to me when the time is right. I just want to make a difference!!! I want to encourage, support, and motivate others. I want people to know that they CAN DO IT!! They can do whatever they put their mind to and I plan to live it! I plan to show it! I believe it will happen.

I am soooo excited about all the new and exciting things that are in store for the upcoming year. I plan to share all my resolutions soon! I am planning some awesome things and I can't wait to share the journey with all of you!!! I don't wait for the beginning of a new calendar year to write down new goals, challenges or resolutions. I do this all year long but this is going to be a big year and I am dreamin big. In the past, I have not allowed myself to dream or to share those dreams with others but this year is gonna be different. I KNOW it. I have goals, I am going to announce them to the world and then I am going to pursue them. Life is too short! Don't sell youself short! Let's do this!!! TOGETHER!!!

I haven't read the book yet. I just picked it up yesterday in from the post office when I picked up our Vacation Hold mail. After reading your blog, I feel like I must go home tonight and look for you in the book!

Keep up the good work! Good luck with the Personal Trainer course!

Hi. I'm the woman that was checking out the diet books that looked at you strangely at Borders. I just wanted to let you know that I ended up buying the book and have registered on the website. I'll admit I was taken aback at first but once I realized you were sincere I paid attention. Thank you for not being afraid to share.

What a wonderful blog. I have a co-worker at work that ask me sometime ago what I doing to lose weight. You know I told her about Spark and even pull my page up and allow her to view it. Then she proceed to tell me that I sounds like to much work. I'm not going to give up on her and keep encouraging her to lose the weight in a positive and healthy manner. Better yet I'm going to let her read my book. I absoluetly love the site and wouldn't change using it for the world. I hope that I make it to the next Spark event.

I plan to get certified, too -- as soon as it is feasible for us to do so. :) Congratulations on being able to take that step now! :D I really want to help others to see how achievable being healthy and fit is. The Spark is UNSTOPPABLE! :D

Most people would not have bothered to drop by and leave a note on my page saying they had deleted the 6 copies of this blog, and, my comment asking you if you realised it had been posted 6 times. They just would have done it.

Good post by the way. Good luck.

(aw, leah, i loved reading this sparkblog post. i could feel your excitement and i was giddy right along with you.

i love love love that you were spreading the spark and you have every right to be proud of being in the book!

i know EXACTLY what you mean about being nervous to put it out there that you are going to work on getting this certification. i feel exactly the same way with my pmp - i have been hesitating people i'm going to work on it because i'm terrified i won't pass the test and then when they ask me about it i will have to tell them i didn't do it.

::hugs:: you can do it and i can do it. it will take a lot of work and studying but we are smart, strong girls and we can do this.)
