Christmas Recap

Sunday, December 27, 2009

I hope that everyone had a very Merry Christmas! I pray that, wherever you were, that you were surrounded by those that you care about most. I know I was.

I have to admit that I was somewhat fearful that I wouldn't handle this holiday season very well. As I have mentioned numerous time before, I miss my pops. Nothing changes this, certain times just intensify the emotion. The holidays have to be at the top of this list. I definitely missed our past traditions but I am proud to say that I embraced the new and really tried to focus on the positive. We truly got to celebrate our day "our" way. We celebrated at our house. In our pajamas. When we woke up. I can't complain about that!

The holidays are made special by the young ones. Tay was very excited about giving gifts (she has a great and giving heart - I take no credit for that one!) and getting gifts. I have to say that one of my favorite gifts was this picture/scrapbook page that Tay made for me:

Not sure what the family is trying to tell me but here is a pic of a couple of other items I received:

Taylor received a ton of things this year, as usual! She got 3 new swimsuits and 3 new pairs of goggles. As a competative swimmer, she goes though these things like crazy! She also got a lap counter because she likes to swim the 500 meter event (20 laps in a 25 meter pool) and she said she wants to do the 1000m! Um, does this child belong to me? I HATE endurance events, then again I did complete two half marathons and a marathon this year, for fun! I guess that my internal thoughts about my likes/dislikes hasn't caught up with the "new" me yet!

She also got some games for her DS (the Biggest Loser game and Cooking Mama game) and we also got her the Wii Fit Plus. I haven't tried it yet but she seemed to be having fun with it. She says she has bad balance! We all gotta start somewhere! haha! She received a few other items and was spoiled crazy again!

Ty received tons of things for his new passion, hunting. We got him camaflouge pants, shirt, jacket, chair, a deer hunting magazine to read on his flight to Texas this AM, a pair of binoculars, an Under Armour hat for exercising so the sweat doesn't go in his eyes, and an Itunes gift card. He was like a kid in a candy store. He took two rifles that used to belong to my grandpa and then to my father with him to TX. I think my dad would be laughing and somewhat impressed if he knew about Ty's latest escapade. Apparently, getting ammo for a gun that old was tricky. I will let you know what the outcome is. I think he might be pissed if he comes home without a deer under his belt! Seriously, the guy has been playing some hunting game on PS3 just to satisfy him until he can get out there and do it *for real.* I actually have a cute video clip of him (he didn't know I was recording) but I doubt SP would like me to post it on here! So here is a pic instead:

So, moving on to the food!!! There are a few days during the year that I eat with recklace abandon and Christmas is one of those days! I try to not go hog wild but if it happens, I don't beat myself up! With some help from Honey Baked Ham, we had an awesome meal! I made Watergate Salad, Sweet Potatoe Casserole, Green Bean Casserole, Stuffing, Gravy, Mashed Potatoes, Corn, and we heated up some dinner rolls. We had ham and turkey!

Sparkling cider was offered, as well!

After my food had time to settle, I went down to the workout room at my complex and completed level 3 of The 30 Day Shred video, which is part of the SD Sparkteam's 30 Day Shred Challenge! I made time to get this done, even on Christmas day! Yay!

Then a little bit later:

We enjoyed a day of togetherness, giving and good, homemade food! I am thankful for my daughter and my honey. Life is good, pass it on!

I hope that every day brings you a little more peace of mind, closeness with your family, and fun new traditions.

Sounds like a great day! Glad Tay liked her swimming gear. I can't believe she wants to do the 1000 either. Wow she has grown as a swimmer so fast. I'm impressed she has already tackled the 500. I miss coaching so much and going to the swim meets, I also miss working at Paradowski's and chatting with you when you came in, ha! emoticon

It sounds like you had a fantastic Christmas with your family even with the emotional aspect of not having your pop with you physically. I'm 100% confident that he was in all of your hearts though, and that he was with you in spirit. I hope 2010 is phenomenal for you and yours Leah. And GL making recipes from those cookbooks. Lawwwd knows some of us will need them after the eating and drinking spree of this week. Yikes. xoxo! ~Diane emoticon
