The Christmas Tree (poem by R.Slade c 2001)

My earliest memories of the Christmas tree-
Were drenched with images that frightened me.
As I grew older, I finally learned-
The tree had toys for which I yearned.

Later still, it became a beautiful sight-
Especially because we'd become the same height!
Loaded with gifts for girls and boys-
Causing laughter, and cheer, and gleeful noise.

As an adult, it yielded more surprises-
Like seeing it through my daughter's eyes.
Her sparkling smile and her eyes filled with gleam-
As she enjoys the reality of her Christmas dream.

To me, the Christmas tree means love-
As they perch a star or an angel above.
For most children, the tree brings them cheer-
'Cause the presence of Santa Claus draws near.

For some it means peace, for some it means joy-
For some it means money, or jewelry, or a toy.
For some a tree is a much personal thing-
For some- it's a passing fling.

Whatever the Christmas tree means to you-
I sincerely wish all of you dreams do come true-
If I've touched just one person by writing this-
Then praises to GOD- I've received my wish!

    Well, you have certainly gotten me thinking about Christmas Trees, exciting, beautiful, full of hope, yes a Christmas Tree brings all kinds of feelings. I enjoyed your poem, and I certainly hope you and yours have a blessed Christmas.
