My Christmas List

Monday, December 14, 2009

My parents always had us sit down and fill out a Christmas list. They would usually give us the JCPenny catalog to help the process along….LOL. The list was then given to both sets of grandparents and sent to Santa.

I was usually too excited to go to sleep Christmas Eve. I would lay awake for a long time -- I guess too much excitement and anticipation. I was never disappointed. Santa always delivered. Sometimes it was the wrong color but he always got very close. It always amazed me how he could know some things!

Santa came to my house when I was about 7 and sat in my daddy’s chair and brought me a toy and I sat on his lap. I was a firm believer. I think I was about 11 when I learned the truth about Santa. An elderly neighbor told me …. by accident or just because of her age. I still didn’t believe her. My parents told me if you don’t believe, you won’t receive. Of course I still believe!

I haven’t done a Christmas list in years. When I was single – I always wanted a boyfriend for Christmas. I lost my last surviving grandparent about 4 years ago. She told me right before she died that she would do her best to send the right man to me. I just had to wait. I waited and boy did she deliver! He came into my life January 2008 and we haven’t looked back! He is the best thing that has ever happened to me. He is now my husband.

My sister still gives us a list – she tends to be very particular in her requests which we still tease her about. Isn't it amazing how the items change as we get older? Her list got me to thinking about what I would put on my list this year….

Warm beds for all who need them.
Plenty of nourishment for those who are hungry.
Love to those who need a kind touch or word.
The gift of a child to those who are patiently waiting.
Talking with my mom … in person or on the phone.
Hugs and kisses for little ones and big ones too.
An afternoon with a loved one who has passed away.
Spending time with Grandma baking in her kitchen.
Spending a snowy day curled up on the couch with my husband.
A boyfriend for my dearest friend Christine.
Decent jobs for both Amber and JJ.
Ability to make healthy food choices at least 95% of the time.
Having lunch with an old friend.
Spending an afternoon with Irma to get her Angel Food cake recipe.

What would be on your Christmas List?

Your Christmas story sounds alot like mine. I hardly slept Christmas Eve and was a firm believer way past when my friends weren't.

This is my first Christmas with no living Grandparents.

This year I wish for peace and solid world leadership.

So glad you have your hubs this year to cuddle with! Merry Christmas!
