The Biggest Loser

Thursday, December 10, 2009

I am a fan of The Biggest Loser. It has motivated many times, but at times I have gotten discouraged because I can't lose like the contestants do. I just read this article https://sparkpeo.hs.llnwd.net/e1/res
ource/motivation_articles.
asp?id=1192 and it was very encouraging.

I liked this quote:
6. They compare themselves to others. Each week at the weigh-in, the person who loses the most weight gets "immunity" and the people who lose the least are likely to be eliminated. No one wants to be the one who loses the fewest pounds. Inevitably, someone gets discouraged because they compare their weight loss to the losses of others. This is part of the TV game, but in real life, comparing yourself to others is a losing game. The only person you should be concerned with is yourself. Everyone loses weight in different places and at different rates. Don’t let someone else’s victory or defeat determine whether you view yourself as a winner or a loser. Keep your eyes straight ahead as you eat right, exercise hard, remain consistent. If you do this, everything else will eventually fall into place.

I need to remember not to compare myself with others and do the best for my body and my schedule etc., etc. This motivates me.

I will be the" Biggest Loser" in my life.

Also, thank you to all my SparkFriends for being encouraging and motivating!!!!!!!!!!

I love the BL too, it is quite inspirational to me, but yea, those numbers are unbeleivable. This is my quote that helps me when I compare, don't know where I got it. When I compare my self to you one of two things happens. Either, I am going to come out thinking I am better than you (not good) or I am going to come out thinking I am worse than you (not good). Where is the gain?

2Co 10:12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

God often uses this verse to speak to me when I start looking at others and not being content.

What a great reminder!! It reminds me of Amanda from this season's BL...compared to everyone else she just wasn't losing as many lbs but yet she made it to the end! =)

I read the article also. I don't really watch that program, but was not surprised to find out that their techniques are not all that healthy and that they are not given the practice for long term weight loss.

We are trying to lose weight sensibly and as we go, we are learning how to maintain that loss for a lifetime.

Very good reminder of what we should and should not do. It is correct that it is a TV show and as all of these shows look for ratings they need to make it challenging and have a loser each week. Keep focused on the article and remember you are not in a contest but are working towards a better and healthier life. Thank you for your blog.
