Why I am going to succeed this time

Monday, November 02, 2009

So over the past 12 yrs I have tried to lose this weight I put on after having children. Right now I am at the point where I usually hit a plateau, then gradually gain everything back. This time is different for the following reasons:

1. My past attempts at losing weight were solely for the purpose of my own vanity and wanting to impress others. After an incident this past summer where: (a) my back locked completely up on me and I felt paralyzed, (b) my knee (platella femerol syndrome) hurt so bad I could not put any weight on it, and (c) my heels (plantar fascitis and heel spurs) hurt so bad I could not walk more than a few steps at a time ALL 3 HIT AT THE SAME TIME I finally had enough of living my life in constant pain and decided that I HAVE to get this weight off NOW for my health... not to look good or to impress my husband and friends... but in order to be healthy and reduce the mount of pain I am in. My mindset is totally different this time.

2. I am eating foods I LIKE and can live with eating for the rest of my life. My past attempts at losing weight included such strategies as eating a dry salad for one of my meals~ when I HATE salad!!! I used to think that if I went to bed with my stomach growling, then I was being successful. I realize now how foolish that was. I must eat enough calories and fat grams within my target range in order to maintain a healthy weightloss. Starving myself may lead to a temporary loss, but it is not the long term answer.

3. I HAVE SPARKPEOPLE!!! As much as I love my husband and my skinny friends, nobody understands the struggles of losing weight like my online friends at Sparkpeople. I have been on this site for almost 2 months and the support and encouragement I get have been amazing! Y'all just don't know (well, you probably do) what a difference being a part of this group makes. I have never been so confident that I could succeed until now.
