I have just gotten home from some hiking with Sparkfriends. In attendance was myself, BUCKEYESKIER, ONCEUPONABOD, DEBISITY (and hubby) and LORI426.
We met at Highbanks Metro park just outside of Columbus. It was a chilly morning, but once we started moving things warmed up. The park was ablaze in reds, yellows and oranges; true fall weather. The park was busy with joggers and walkers of all ages. I was glad to see other people out being proactive about living a healthy life.
We made a lap around one of the trails and made it back to our cars about 45 minutes later. At this point everyone but LORI426 had things to do. LORI426 and I decided to take the 1.5 mile trail since she would have to be heading off to a Boy Scout gathering. If I'm ever lost in the woods I'll pray that LORI426 is along; she's even more prepared than I am. After our 1.5 mile loop I bid her farewell and make my way to my car. I decide to drive up to one of the other trails and move out on my own.
At this trail I want to make my way out to the Overlook area. It was a bigger hike than I would have expected, but nothing I couldn't handle. Once out to the Overlook the view was worth it. I'll let you be the judge.
Along the way back to my vehicle I bumped into an older couple, the man using a cane to get around. They stopped for the wife to take a picture of him, but as I passed I asked if they would rather have a picture together. They were delighted to have a total stranger offer something so nice. I told them that I hope that someday if I'm in the same situation someone will be kind enough to return the favor. Once back to my car I looked at my HRM and I've walked/hiked 2 hours and burned about 1,000 calories. Not bad for something that didn't even feel like a workout.
I'll let the rest of the pictures speak for themselves.
