ROCKIN' the Music in Motion 5K

I warned you I was going to start blogging more.
This 5K race was planned months ago, but finally came to fruition. While biking with Sparkfriends back in the early summer running was brought up. ROOKIERIDER mentioned she'd like to do a 5K in the future, but was on the fence about it. AMCG2002 said she'd like to run a 5K this year as well, but didn't have a date for one yet. I told both of them that you just have to put a date on a goal and drive towards it. Well, today that goal was realized.
L to R: BUCKEYESKIER, yours truly, LFLANAGAN35, AMCG2002 and ROOKIERIDER.
I had just met BUCKEYESKIER at the Spark Convention and heard her mention wanting to try a 5K, so we had to invite her as well. I love getting Sparkfriends together for an event of any type.
I hadn't been training much for this 5K, but I wasn't going to let that stop me from participating. I figured if I just walk/ran the whole thing was better than being home on the couch. It was a pretty chilly start to the day, but the sun broke through the clouds once in a while and gave warmth to a much needed crowd.
We all lined up and they gave the start command. As always I had my Polar F11 strapped on to record my time. Good thing as well since this wasn't a chip timed event. I took off for the first 3 minutes and then I had to slow to a walk. I alternated back and forth between running and walking for quite a bit of time. When I reached the 1st mile marker I noticed I was WAY ahead of schedule at 10:30. Not long after this LFLANAGAN35 passed me again and seemed to be holding a good pace. I decided to run with her as a pacing partner. Since I haven't been training much I don't have much of a pace down. I stayed with LFLANAGAN35 until almost 3 miles, but I needed a walk break.
After a short 30 second walk break I was back to running. I wanted to finish on the run, but I had lost my pacing partner as she was crossing the finish line. I looked at my watch and almost fell over. Early in the day I mentioned that I hadn't been running much since transitioning from biking. Last week I'd pulled my right quad and have been really easy on it since. I also mentioned that I wouldn't be looking to break any speed records or time records. Well, I did just that; I set a personal best of 32:30!
I was very proud of all my Sparkfriends today! Everyone finished and had a great time. Sometimes the destination is as important as the journey.
