Help needed

I need help losing the weight that I have gained back. I lost weight and was almost to my goal when I went through some personal stressful times. I have gained almost all of it back. Any help or ideas would be great my health depends on my getting the weight back off again. emoticon

    I know what you mean about the stress being a factor in weight gain. I've been in a state of high stress for a long time now and can relate 100%. I know that a lot of people will talk about things here on SP and making yourself feel better, but having been there, I understand the reality, which is that many times a pep talk and deep breathing are greater sources of frustration because they don't *do* anything. Not to say that things of this nature aren't helpful in the right time, but here and now you need something concrete. And here it is. :)

    You've done this before.

    Some people might look on that as a negative, as a reminder of failure, but what it really is is the fact that you *are* strong enough and you *are* capable and you *can* meet the goals you set for yourself in this area. You've already done it! You can get back on the wagon again without the fear that you wont' be able to do it; you already know you can. :) With each choice you make, be it large or small, you can say "Yes, I'm stressed and I'm not where I was before, but I know what that place looks and feels like, and I know it's what I want again," and you'll be able to do the things that will take you there.

    Now I'm not saying that the process with be all hugs and puppies, making commitments to anything means having times that are hard, but you've already tasted victory, you've already mastered the tools and techniques you need to be successful. That in and of itself should make you feel good and help make the stress less potent. You can be in control, just like you were before, and that's a pretty sweet way to be. :)

    Lots of ideas and support on SparkPeople. Let yourself play with it and investigate. The main thing I had to remember was to have patience with myself. Do what you can do. Do something positive towards your goal every day. And then allow yourself feel good about that! (It took me awhile to learn that one. I sort of went kicking and screaming.) One little tiny success leads to another...which leads to another. Pretty soon you turn around and you don't remember when it was, exactly, that you began feeling good about yourself; when you turned a corner and became stronger and more confident. But it's happened.
