Many Accomplishments

I kept thinking that I needed to blog, but I just didn't know where to start. So much has happened and changed. In May I ran my second 1/2 marathon and PR'd by almost 17 whole minutes. I was completely excited about it and I feel like on that day I ran my race and didn't let anyone else dictate how my race went. I started out at my pace and stayed right around 11:00 to 11:30 for the entire time. My dad didn't make the trip to Texas for my first 1/2, but he did come to Lincoln for this one. He thought that it was silly to drive across the country for a race, but now I think that he has a different opinion. He kept trying to feed me more telling me that I needed more to eat. Also, I saw them a lot because the course was more spread out than Texas so they could drive around. I saw them at around mile 2, again at about mile 7 (next to the bearded nun) and then at mile 10. They drove by me when they were moving from mile 7 to mile 10 and my dad was almost hanging out the window yelling at me. It was so freaking adorable. The only bad thing was that because they me at mile 10 they got stuck in traffic and didn't make it to see me finish. It was an amazing race with incredible support from the city. I will definitely do that one again.

Also, in May I had my first 100 mile month. I was pretty impressed with myself considering that I am working full time and was going to school 3 nights a week. June is going to be a lot less mileage because I am not training for anything, but I'll still try to keep it up. We are taking a mini vacation the end of June that will really cut into my mileage also.

Last but not least I have been concentrating on running my 2 1/2's and haven't done a 5k since last October. That one I was smack in the middle of training for my first 1/2 and I ran it in 33:17. I had really wanted to run one last summer in under 30 minutes. That was the level to me that seemed like fast people run in under 30 minutes. So, I was going to run another 1/2 in Maryville on 6/13, but my 16 year old brother told me that if I did the 5k he would run with me. I hadn't registered yet and I had a lot of stuff planned for the weekend so I decided that a 5k would leave me a lot more energy to enjoy the rest of my weekend. I had a dream Friday night that I finished in 30:02. I woke up so mad at myself. So we showed up and it was much smaller than any of my other races. I was only registered the day before and my number was 350. That was for a marathon, 1/2, 10k and 5k. We ran and it went so well. The weather was perfect, cloudy, cool and dry. We took off and my parents saw us just after the start, 1/2 way and at the end. I thought my brother was going to poop out on me because he hadn't run in almost a month, but we did it. We finished in 28:20 according to my garmin. They don't have the official times posted yet. That's almost 5 whole minutes off my last 5k! Does this make me fast now?? In my mind, yep! That is pretty darn fast for me. It averaged out to 9:08 mm pace!

Edit - I just found out that I got third in my age group for this 5K!! I'm in the 20-29 age group so it's generally got people so fast that I can't even see them after the start line. Both the first and second were right about a minute ahead of me and only 2 seconds apart. YEAH!!

5 minutes faster than your last 5k? That's awesome! Congradulations! I think you're officially "fast". =) (not to mention a 17min half marathon PR!)
