Kinda sorta back

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

So this past week I've been playing video games a LOT, which meant too busy to Spark and too busy to work out and too busy too busy too busy haha. Actually part of the reason I haven't been working out is that my back got super messed up last weekend and has been made worse by sitting at my computer (another reason I haven't been on Spark really)

But after weigh-in this morning I only gained a pound while not keeping track of nutrition/fitness, and that 1 pound can easily be that TOM comes in today/tomorrow. Which means I may have been eating the amount my body wanted.

I love SP and I love all my new friends, but it's just so hard to find the time to sit down at the computer for so long each day, and it's so hard to stay within the ranges I'm given, when all I really want is to do it on my own.

I don't know, maybe it's just me. But I do think that after this week of not being on SP, I was still conscious of what I was eating, a bit worried that I was going to gain a few pounds and mess up all my progress, but all in all I enjoyed the week a lot more, I found that I went out and did things that would normally be exercise, but without ruining them by calorie counting.

So I'm planning to stay on SP, but I'd like to try this experiment of doing what my body wants me to do, so I'll be on just as a community member and as a friend.

I have been slacking since I started school. I have also had a bunch of crap going down. I hope that this is the month that life returns to some sort of normalcy and creates a reasonable schedule. Oh and gardening I have been in the dirt for two months now.

I had a very similar week last week; too busy with a project to worry about food, exercise, recording data, reading email, sleeping, etc., so I can appreciate what you're saying. However, I'm a big fan of logging food. I've been doing it for years, whether as part of a diet or not. Simply entering your food data doesn't take that much time, and I like seeing the numbers at the end of the day and knowing what I put in my body. When I lapse on my food logging I tend to get irresponsible and, eventually, gain weight. My point here is, try not to look at it as a fun-ruining chore, but as a useful tool for data analysis.

But we're all different and not every approach works for everybody. Do what works for you :)

And yeah, I think you're right about listening to your body. The numbers SP gives you are guidelines, not gospel. Again, do what works for you!

I know it can be annoying having to log in everything but I think that we need it to help us be accountable atleast in the beggining. I wish you the best of luck and I really hope that you don't undo all the progress you've made! Don't let the 1lb start creeping in every week!

You know I'm a great believer in eating when you're hungry and not when a meal plan says you should, so I'm all in favor of the experiment. Good luck!

I do think that fitness challenges, trophies, and the other SP perks can be especially useful when you're building the fitness habit - when you're starting out you don't necessarily see real-world rewards for your efforts right away. Once the habit's established, though, you don't really need the online stuff so much.

Hey, do what you want. :) But you didn't lose weight so unless you're at goal...? I'd recommend still tracking your food even if you don't go by a computer method to avoid the strain on your back. So far you've just shown that you can maintain without gaining much without tracking and still keep exercising and still being mindful -- but unless you're burning more than you're consuming, you won't continue to lose, and it's hard to do that without keeping track. I'm NOT SAYING it's impossible, just speaking from my own experience. I'm glad you're still planning on being around from time to time though. :) What games? I also want to know!

The beauty of this site is that you can use it however you want! I think that all of us tend to be more, or less, involved in it as Life Occurs? even when I'm not doing such a great job of tracking food and exercise, I still come in and se what's going on with my friends. Luvya n huggles!

I know what you mean Bel, I actually have been doing the same thing. It gets very tedious logging on to SP every time you eat something or exercise. Do what you body tells you, follow those signals but remember that sometimes (at least for me) following what I thought were signals lead to mindless munching and extra tushy padding. I think that the reason that SP works for most is the be ability to see exactly what you have been doing, because it can feel like, I really didn't eat much today so I am sure I stayed on track...ooops maybe not.

I also feel so rewarded, IDK why, to put in my workouts on the tracker. It's almost like I feel like if I wrote it down in burns extra calories. I know that isn't true but it works so whatever.

Good luck to you. I hope that you are able to keep up the good work with your new plan!

Everyone needs to do something their own way to make it work, you know?

What games have you been playing?
