Schoolyard as my gym

Strange to think that I paid $60 in Feb for a membership to this rec center and I haven't even used the small gym that's here. Even though they do have a couple exercise bikes, a few treadmills and (I think) a step-machine. I mainly use the rec center for the computer usage now that my home computer is messed up.
Instead I head outside to our school's playground & ballfield, which is right behind the rec center.
At the ballfield I'll jog & walk around the track (hoping someday to be able to run the whole track without stopping). The bleachers have become my new step-machine and a whole lot more.
At home I have a couple boxes with fitness type magazines...Shape, fitness, yoga Journal, Muscle & Fitness, Oxygen, Prevention, Women's Health...etc. Many of them have articles with exercises that can be done at home without special equipment except maybe a sturdy chair or portable, stackable steps. Well, those same exercises can be done outside at any school playground or city park (whichever is close to you).
I'm re-learning how much fun the swings and slide can be, and how useful they can fit into your workout.
After years of telling my kids & grandkids not to walk UP a slide~thats exactly what I'm doing now. I will also lie at the bottom with my feet pointed toward the top to do what I call "Slide Curls" and/or reverse crunches.
The swings come in handy to do what 1 magazine called "Pendelum swing". Stick both feet in swing so ankles are rested on the seat with toes pointed down and put both hands flat out on ground about shoulder width apart. Now swing your knees in toward your chest...keep that up until someone walks by and laughs cuz you look silly. Or you could leave your feet in the seat and just try doing push-ups.
There is no law saying that you have to be in preschool to enjoy the equipment at a park or schoolyard (as long as school ain't in session). So School is almost out for Summer vacation so grab a frisbee and a dog (if u have one) and head for the nearest park and have a ball. Course around here, the only things that look at me while I'm doing all this is the wild elk...I'm sure they must be wondering what the heck I'm doing.
My arms are pitiful, so I don't spend much time on the monkey bars. But few times I have tried just hanging from them and doing leg lifts & hanging curls or hanging crunches (whatever u want to call it.)
