gained a boyfriend...and 30 lbs

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

this was 2 summers ago when we first started dating...

I was a "happy" 145 and he was a gym rat who had tight strong muscles and almost a six pack...he had since high school.

THIS was this past summer...

you can't see my body and there's a reason for it. I hide in pictures now because I'm now at 174. Unhappy with myself and so is he. He says he's gained 30 lbs as well but what's worse is he's lost his extremely muscular physique that he's so proud of.

so what happened?

I think for starters, we got lazy. We rarely see each other. But when we do, it's almost as if we're on vacation. We like to sleep in on weekends and then when we do roll out of bed at noon (sometimes later) we hit up our favorite local pancake house for breakfast. He usually gets a stack of pancakes, eggs, bacon, and a side of homefries. They do have a healthy options menu since the owner is a weight watchers coach, but do you hnestly think that when I step into that diner and smell all that delicous food that I'm going to order a bowl of special K and a fresh fruit cup? no...obviously i want a greasy bacon egg and cheese on grilled bagel.

Since we don't eat until noon, then we're not hungry again until dinner when we're starving. By this time we're too lazy to cook, and we'll head out to a restaurant again. It's date night every night see? Horrible!!! but this is what we've been doing. And I know now why we've been gaining all the weight.

I have to say that we are active sometimes. We love to snowboard, go for hikes, walks, even runs together. In the summer we're learning to surf, I rock climb and have taken him to teach him before, we take walks on the beach, go for bike rides, and kayak. But it always comes back to our eating habits. They're terrible!

This past weekend we went away. I sat him down and told him how unhapy i was with the way i looked and to my surprise, he said he was the same way.

We've made a pact to help each other eat better. Get more active. Live a healthier life. I'm already on it. I just need him to help me too. I think we can do it.

This soooo happened to me to. I think I gained about 10 pounds in one relationship and then I gained another 15 in this one. It sucks! We are so guilty of sleeping in and doing nothing on weekends but eating and drinking. It is all good fun until it catches up to you! My guy has gained a lot too and we both are unhappy about it.

Things are slowing changing though. I have been working out a lot and trying to influence us to eat healthy, and now he is trying to get on board with me. Good luck to you both!
