I Am an Athlete
Monday, August 11, 2008

Watching the Olympics is something I was brought up on. From the Opening Ceremonies to the Closing, we watched, day by day. I have witnessed tremendous things. Olga Korbut's spectacular feats that changed gymnastics, the African runner who was uncomfortable in his shoes, and ran the race barefoot, Mark Spitz's golden performances. Over and over I was inspired and amazed.
Athletes work toward a goal, refining it as they go, changing their workouts and strategies to get the most out of their bodies and minds that they possibly can. I am doing the same thing in this life change I have made. My diet changes, my exercise changes, the amount of time I work out and the things I can do changes as I get closer to what I want to do. I am committed to getting in shape, being healthy, and learning new things. I work hard toward these goals, and see no end to the work I will put into it. I am enjoying the journey now, I am thrilled at what I have accomplished and the knowledge that what I want is, indeed, within my reach. I am an athlete.
