Life is meant to be challenging. If we didn't have to work hard towards our goals, it wouldn't be rewarding.

Hellooo! I'm Jackie. I am a full-time grad student living in Connecticut. Prior to returning to school, I taught high school history for 4 years. I was always "athletic" but not quite an athlete. Pair that with less-than-healthy eating habits, and my weight slowly crept up on me. I never had an overweight BMI, but when my clothes started getting tight and I found myself smearing fudge onto brownies and shoveling them into my mouth, I knew I needed to get serious about health and fitness.

That was a little over three years ago. I have 'fallen off the wagon" a few times, but in general I am MUCH healthier and I know I am more fit. I try to find new ways to challenge myself. Presently, I am training for a half marathon. I am also an aspiring yogi and practice hot vinyasa and ashtanga yoga.

I also LOVE to cook and bake! It's funny because I take joy in baking muffins and cookies, and then I rarely eat them. I just send my boyfriend to work with a big plate full o' goodies :)

I know that the key to my fitness is to keep Sparking. So you may stumble across my page, see my weight, and think, 'what is she doing here?' but I need this place. I have never found a better community than right here on Spark. So if you want someone to push you, to talk to, to confide in, to joke around with--WHATEVER--add me as a friend! I am judgement free; so as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter where you've been, it matters where you are GOING!

I am essentially maintaining my weight these days, but I have found that a thinner physique does help me run faster, so I have 'tinkered' with my ticker, if you will, to allow myself to drop a few more pounds.

August 2010: New Mantra: "Its the CHALLENGE that makes it worthwhile." I am leaving my job to go back to school for my Master's degree. I am making major life sacrifices to do this, but I know that I will not be satisfied until I further my education, and it will pay dividends for my career in the long run. What this DOES mean is that I will be paying off my students loans for quite a while, and in the meantime, I will watch my friends get married, start families, and purchase a home. Hmmm if or when that will ever be financially possible for me, I don't know. But you know what? No one can take away my education. No one can take away my ability to run like the wind. I want to concentrate on my mind and body, because I only get one shot at this life. Wealth and possessions? I can't take those with me!
