1/1/2018 - It is going to be a big year for our family. Our oldest and youngest daughters are getting married this spring and early summer. Beyond that, I am working to reduce my weight by 22 lbs before Thanksgiving.

Jan, 2016- I'm working toward becoming a better me.

I was successful in 2011 with a challenge at the school where I worked and in 2014 I was a winner in a community challenge. Not that I lost the most weight, but I was consistent in three areas: tracking food eaten, weighing in, and tracking activity. Each of those successful events were because I was REALLY, really focused on what I ate and making sure to keep moving.

Life has ways of changing our focus. Right now I am trying to focus on a leaner me and a leaner collection of "things" in our household. I left work in October, 2015 because I realized I was not happy there. I have stayed happily busy getting things done around the house, but will be looking to go back to work.

I know eating vegetables and to keep moving are the avenues for a better life. I have a huge sugar addiction which I am constantly battling, and am recovering from a knee injury which I sustained while participating in a Breast Cancer walk in the fall of 2014. That injury really de-railed my progress and I pretty much gained back all of the weight I had taken off.

My husband and I are trying the DASH diet. Phase I was very successful. Now I think we may be eating too much. I am following Heller's Action Plan at the 1600 calorie level. I am looking forward to hearing from buddies on the DASH team.

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.
Attitude, to me is more important than facts.
It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think or say or do.
It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill.
It will make or break a company...a church...a home.
The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.
We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way.
    We cannot change the inevitable.
The only thing we can do is play on the one thing we have, and that is our attitude.
I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.
And so it is with you...we are in charge of our attitudes.

    Comfort Zone
    by Anonymous

I used to have a comfort zone where I knew I wouldn't fail.
The same four walls and busywork were really more like jail.
I longed so much to do the things I'd never done before,
But stayed inside my comfort zone and paced the same old floor.

I said it didn't matter that I wasn't doing much.
I said I didn't care for things like commission checks and such.
I claimed to be so busy with the things inside the zone,
But deep inside I longed for something special of my own.

I couldn't let my life go by just watching others win.
I held my breath; I stepped outside and let the change begin.
I took a step and with new strength I'd never felt before,
I kissed my comfort zone goodbye and closed and locked the door.

If you're in a comfort zone, afraid to venture out,
Remember that all winners were at one time filled with doubt.
A step or two and words of praise can make your dreams come true.
Reach for your future with a smile; success is there for you!
