Welcome to our place! Relax with us by the pool and watch the puppies romp. Come take a walk with me at sunrise and sunset--the sky here goes on forever! No wonder they decorate with pink and blue in Florida--that's the color of the vast cloud mounds in the sky, where the lightning plays at any time of day. You never know what might be going on around here, but good food, friends, characters, physical activity, and my thoughts, goals, and interests of the moment are going to be part of it.

Fitness Minutes: 327,225

My Goals:
When I first joined SparkPeople 14 years ago, I think, I'd seen my weight creeping up and decided that I needed to be more aware of what I was eating and how much I was exercising.

Well, it just happened again!

Having a weekly restaurant news column in the local paper is NOT a great method of self-control.

Note to self: It's never okay to just eat and drink whatever you damn please!

My Program:
Make sure to eat at least SOME breakfast every day, for a kick-start!

Walk a total of 5 miles, 10,000 steps, a day.

Eat only when hungry and stop when full. (This is NOT easy, by the way.)

Do daily pilates-type exercises to keep my hips and back limber.

Upper-body weight training every other day.

Personal Information:
71, with an emotional age of about 36


Went from 172 in February 2005 to a low of 111 several summers ago (much too low for me)

Now aiming to keep off a recently re-lost 20 pounds, mainly to fit into more of my clothes and have a flatter tummy.

This, too, isn't always easy, because of the abovementioned newspaper gig and Bill's great cooking.

Other Information:
My passions lately are writing and getting to be expert in the local restaurant scene. Retirement is proving far busier than full-time employment, if less lucrative.

    Happy Happy Joy Joy indeed...Rin and Stimpy couldn't have expressed it any better. You are right, the first week was pretty tense. I seem to be back into diet vigilance and the walking is a miracle cure for me. I hope you are doing well, too, and that your progress is good this weekend. Thanks so much for your support! Love the balloon goodie, my symbol I guess.

    Five pounds?? How much cheesecake did you EAT and for how many hours non-stop? Really, you know it's not a sudden thing when you gain and sometimes it doesn't stay, so keep your chin up!

    Good to hear from you. I am still not smoking and reversed that initial 4 pounds. Back to almost myself on this one-week anniversary.

    Celebrating my first smoke-free week today.

    C'mon Sue, you KNOW you haven't gained 5 pounds overnight emoticon . Not five "real" pounds unless you've been eating 16,000 extra calories yesterday.
    The problem is our bodies at this stage in our life. They just seem to go haywire. But if you keep exercising and eating moderately, according to your calorie allowance, the weight will disappear again. It's got to, because it can't stay on a fit body. And, remember too, sometimes we ourselves have unrealistic ideas about what we should "weigh" when, really, a few extra pounds are healthy and don't show. I weigh almost the same as you do; I weigh 128. And people say I am thin.

    Hi Sue! Thank you for the lovely comment on my page... I do FEEL a lot younger than I used to and it's made a world of difference in my life...

    I love your positive, fun attitude, from what I read on your page, and you have the right idea: AWARENESS! Being aware is the key to getting things under control and to taking the action necessary to change what we want to change... You are on the right track - give it your all!
