I have had some pretty terrible eating habits, and been pretty much sedentary, all of my adult life. I am tired of being tired, and I don't want to be a spectator on the sidelines of life anymore.

I want to love myself as much as I love my family and friends, and I would NEVER treat any of them the way I've treated myself for the past 15-20 years. I want to eat REAL food, not this processed crap that is all around us, and I want to get out into the REAL world to get my activity - I've tried gyms and videos, and they just don't do anything for me. ((UPDATE: I've learned to tolerate the gym - Yay!))

I have realized that it wasn't being fat that was making me unhappy, it was being unhappy that was making me fat. I don't think I've ever focused on me, taken care of me, or done things that I needed to do for ME. I have to be happy and healthy to be a good mother, a good wife, a good friend. It's real this time. :-)

My Goals:
1. Lose 52 pounds before the end of 2010. (DONE 2-9-11)

2. Raise $2300 to walk in the 3-Day in Phoenix in November. (DONE)

3. After finishing #1 and #2, get tested for kidney donation. (DONATED 1-21-12)

4. Grow my hair out to donate to Locks of Love sometime in 2011. (DONE 10-26-11)

5. (NEW) Reach my doctor-prescribed TOPS goal weight of 150 pounds by 1-1-12. (DONE 2-1-12)

My Program:
I am paying attention to what I eat, and trying not to fall into my old emotional-eating habits. I joined a local TOPS group for weekly accountability and support. I have become MUCH more active - exercise is no longer a 4-letter word or something I'm allergic to!

Personal Information:
My name is Colleen, and I am 39 years old. I am married, with 2 children (ages 6+ 11) and only 1 dog right now, a Boxer! In late 2009, we relocated from Phoenix AZ to Deming NM, and I lost my entire support system. I am looking for help in keeping motivated to reach my goal.

Other Information:
I taught for 12 years before leaving Phoenix. I adore Jesus and my church family. I am an admitted TV junkie :-) who is trying to unlearn 35 years of terrible health habits!

It was fun to help with the baskets. I felt like I might as well do something Not the easiest thing to be there at 5 am but didn't kill me either. I tend to be an early riser.
Hope this month really is much more relaxing than last month!

This was the 5th annual Jump into Summer event. It gets better every year. Hidalgo Medical Services runs it and gets sponsors. This year was the first time for the water slide which the kids loved. I saw a tag on it and I think the same guy who rents jumping balloons or whatever they call them rents it. I was thinking this time of year it would be much more fun to rent the slide than the balloon for a kids party. We don't have parties that size but lots of people do. I see the jumping balloons somewhere a lot of times. It's all inflatable. Really cool. There was so much other information on nutrition, etc. The them of it was 5210 for 5 fruits and veggies a day, 2 hours of leisurely screen time (limiting time on tv, games, etc to 2 hours a day), 1 hour of physical activity a day, and o sweetened drinks. Maybe next year I'll remember to let you know ahead of time and you can come up with the kids for the day. It was supposed to be from 10 until 2, but many activities kept on until between 2:30 and 3. The dunking booth, the water slide, the jumping train engine were among the last to close up. Your kids would have a lot of fun at it. I think you would too. They also had a zumba demonstration to try it but I didn't do that because I was busy with something else (might of be when I was doing the 4 laps around the park for the hiking/walking booth LOL). That booth was also giving pedometers when you finished the 4 laps. another booth gave these cool little tape measures that I could keep in my purse. I think that was the hula hoop one.
    Have a great day!

I've seen pictures posted on facebook too of the fire taken from Hillsboro. At night they can see the flames. To be watching for days and not know whether it's going to get your house or not must be so incredibly stressful too. I just can't imagine going through what they are going through. And it is such a beautiful little community. I just feel so bad for all of them and pray for them and for the firefighters who are risking their lives out there to fight it. Can you imagine fighting a raging hot fire in fire gear in the heat we have? They are truly an amazing group of people!

Thanks so much for your prayers for the people affected by the fire burning near here. I've had a number of people say they would pray. They need all the prayers they can get there and in other areas of fires in the state. Both the residents and also the firefighters because it such a dangerous job. I also saw that those who live in Hillsboro need to be prepared in case it travels and they have to evacuate also. So hoping and praying that doesn't happen. Saturday when I was up in the area I was fascinated by it but hoped and believed they would get it quickly as I watched all the planes dropping slurry. But when I heard it had grown then it has really become a burden on my heart for the area and people. Its even more so because I have been through that area more times than I can possibly count over the years. Probably at least a hundred times or more. If I go to Albuquerque, that's the way I usually go unless its icy. When I worked for Senior Services from 1995 to 2006 I had to go to Santa Fe or Albuquerque a lot. Sometimes twice a month. And then there have been a lot of other times I've gone over it, going all the way back to childhood.
    Have a great day!
