I have had some pretty terrible eating habits, and been pretty much sedentary, all of my adult life. I am tired of being tired, and I don't want to be a spectator on the sidelines of life anymore.

I want to love myself as much as I love my family and friends, and I would NEVER treat any of them the way I've treated myself for the past 15-20 years. I want to eat REAL food, not this processed crap that is all around us, and I want to get out into the REAL world to get my activity - I've tried gyms and videos, and they just don't do anything for me. ((UPDATE: I've learned to tolerate the gym - Yay!))

I have realized that it wasn't being fat that was making me unhappy, it was being unhappy that was making me fat. I don't think I've ever focused on me, taken care of me, or done things that I needed to do for ME. I have to be happy and healthy to be a good mother, a good wife, a good friend. It's real this time. :-)

My Goals:
1. Lose 52 pounds before the end of 2010. (DONE 2-9-11)

2. Raise $2300 to walk in the 3-Day in Phoenix in November. (DONE)

3. After finishing #1 and #2, get tested for kidney donation. (DONATED 1-21-12)

4. Grow my hair out to donate to Locks of Love sometime in 2011. (DONE 10-26-11)

5. (NEW) Reach my doctor-prescribed TOPS goal weight of 150 pounds by 1-1-12. (DONE 2-1-12)

My Program:
I am paying attention to what I eat, and trying not to fall into my old emotional-eating habits. I joined a local TOPS group for weekly accountability and support. I have become MUCH more active - exercise is no longer a 4-letter word or something I'm allergic to!

Personal Information:
My name is Colleen, and I am 39 years old. I am married, with 2 children (ages 6+ 11) and only 1 dog right now, a Boxer! In late 2009, we relocated from Phoenix AZ to Deming NM, and I lost my entire support system. I am looking for help in keeping motivated to reach my goal.

Other Information:
I taught for 12 years before leaving Phoenix. I adore Jesus and my church family. I am an admitted TV junkie :-) who is trying to unlearn 35 years of terrible health habits!

Thank you so much for the welcome! We have been here in Deming about a month, and are looking for a church. Husband and I will have to stop by and check it out. We would really love to find a church family in town. Look forward to seeing you around! ^-^

It was so great to be a part of the walk. Glad you guys in Deming have not had the flooding that has hit so many other places, around Las Cruces, T. or C., here, Socorro county, and places up north. It's been unreal! The flood and damages Friday night in Santa Clara was really startling to me too. I'm not sure if you remember where Santa Clara is, but when you are going to the Fort Bayard race Memorial Day weekends, from the highway coming from Deming you turn right into Fort Bayard, or left from the highway into Santa Clara. There is a creek that runs through there and I know sometimes it runs or has gotten a little high, but to was a mobile home away is just so unbelievable to me. The grandmother was there, babysitting two grandkids, while the parents were out of town and she just barely had time to get them out and into a car and to higher ground. They didn't get to get the dog out of the home, but it came to rest not far away against some trees and was still upright because it hit the trees before it flipped over. Someone was able to rescue the dog later, and the dog was okay. Also washed away a brand new $3000 storage shed of a neighbors. They said that the storage shed held a lot of things of the son of the residents, who is in the military and I think they said in Iraq. Other places were damaged. I've just never seen anything like it. And just so many other places I know so well that suffered damage, like Mogollon, T. or C., Glenwood, the road and area around the Cliff Dwellings (not the Cliff Dwellings themselves but areas near there). The paper showed some pictures of the Catwalk at Glenwood and bridges part of the Catwalk completely washed away and rock slides along the trail and other damages. They don't know when it will be able to reopen again. They had just gotten part of it reopened earlier this summer after the fire above their and threat of floods then. And there are a few places going to the Catwalk where Whitewater Creek crosses the road and those have washed out and you can't even get to the picnic area right now. One day when the flooding was happening last weekend, there is a bridge in the road in Glenwood before you get to the Catwalk turnoff that is relatively high, and the water completely washed over it. The bridge is still there, and wasn't washed out but I just think of the amazing amount of water that was flowing down that creek. And the Gila River, near the Cliff dwellings, ha risen from about 1 1/2 feet deep to over 15 feet!
Well enough bad news about the flooding in our area Pray for the flooded towns and victims around New Mexico, as well as Colorado and what they've been through. There is an elderly man from Arizona who was visiting Mogollon and was evacuated out of there before the flood hit. His truck was found several days ago washed down the creek by flood waters but no sign of him anywhere and the are still looking for him.

And I see in the channel 7 news feed on FB that a group is looking for evidence of bigfoot in the Valles Caldera area.

I ran 1.25 miles this morning, using walk/run. I haven't run in a while. I figure I need to train for the Turkey Trot this year!
