And another step forward as the years go by.... More changes from the intros below. But that is the nature of life. I have done and experienced a lot in the nearly 6 years since my husband was killed. Over the past 2 years, I have become sedentary again, and I miss how my active life felt.
---------------
Below this is my introduction for SparksPeople... one major change has occurred that has been beyond life altering. While I was recovering from achilles surgery, my husband was killed by doctor induced Serotonin Syndrome and Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome on January 17, 2009. The past 9 months are indescribable except perhaps to those who have walked through the darkness of widowhood. I am back on Sparkpeople, because I want to be able to still do those activities that are part of what define who I am (hiking, camping, outdoors).
____________
I have been heavy most of my life particularly since I became very ill my junior year. The weight just came on after that. I hit my "first" high weight of 239 back in 1996. Then I lost almost 70 pounds. My weight fluctuated, but I was happily hiking around Colorado and even did a 14 day Outward Bound Moutaineering course.
Then my knees, which were always an issue, completely disintegrated. After 5 knee surgeries (including bone grafts) in less than a year, my knees were still unstable (and continue to be but less so now). The depression because of the surgeries and physical limitations just allowed me to slip back in to old habits--and I just didn't care. All the weight and then more came back--and I lost my ability to hike and climb. It's been a long trial to get to where I am physically and mentally ready to make these changes.

It's really, really time for some changes. I am not who I want to be--and it's time to move towards the strengths of the person that I remember from around a decade ago.
