I am 51 and it is about time that I get serious about my fitness and physical well-being. Today my 3 boys started walking together! I guess I need to get going as well.

Updated 9/24/10: My sons got me started, and now I actually walk more than they do. But I am grateful that they helped me get motivated!

I want to eventually lose about 15 more pounds, fit into a very special holiday skirt, and be able to tie my shoes & paint my toenails without getting out of breath!

I want to be so settled in this healthier lifestyle that I won't easily drift out of it. I want to think before I splurge and decide whether it is worth it or not. I want to get to the point where I easily recognize urges to eat for emotional reasons. Also to recognize and mostly avoid "trigger" foods that seem to cause me to eat too much of them.

I want to continue to walk and gradually increase my steps-per-day and miles-per-week goals.

I would also like to do more strength training and stretching.

3rd goal: to drop into the "Healthy" BMI column before Christmas...or better yet, before the first Christmas party! That means I have about 6 pounds to go, in about as many weeks.

{I reached my 3rd goal! I hit 144 & dropped into the "Healthy" BMI column before Christmas--on December 21, 2010 to be exact. And not only that, but I lost one more pound the very next day!}

4th goal: reach 142 pounds by New Year's Eve (2010) for a total weight loss of 30 pounds since spring of 2010.

{I did not reach this goal on schedule. It took me

Personal Information:
Born in Florida, to Christian parents, I have 3 sisters & 1 brother, each of whom knows Christ as Savior. I had the blessing of being taken to Bible-teaching churches all my childhood & youth.

Now I live in South Georgia & have been in Georgia since Oct. 1986.

Not only am I privileged to be a stay-at-home-mom, but also to homeschool my boys. (GA is a very homeschool-friendly state, BTW!) The 2013-14 school year marks the 20th year of homeschooling for our family. My children have always been taught at home and--thanks be to God--so far this has worked for us! I have 3 boys. Two of them have finished school & passed their GEDs. Just one left to go, & he is in the 10th grade. (If the Lord allows us to continue until ds3 graduates, we will have homeschooled for 22 years!)

Other Information:
I am an American by the Grace of God! Even with all of this country's faults and our current bigger-than-life problems, we still have it better here than people do in many places on earth. I thank God for my country!

Thanks, Lois! We are on our last day of a great holiday! Washing, packing, last minute shopping...and hopefully some beach time today!
Take care, sweet friend. I will be waving from the plane tomorrow!

    Hi Sweet friend!
Thanks for the update! Sounds like you are having a VERY busy summer! I pray that you will have an abundance of energy and grace to handle all you have going on!

We are well! My daughters are much less busy than most summers - Oldest is working part time. Middle daughter is too young to work, but too old for most camps, so she's spending a lot of time at home. Youngest just got back from a week at camp and she has a lot on the go for the summer. DH is busy as always - he has a long commute to work, is working on some construction at home and feeling the pull of those demands in a big way.

I am enjoying work, loving the summer weather and the more relaxed pace of life (although I feel like a taxi a lot of the time!). My running is coming along, and I'm enjoying biking with the family. Food continues to be the biggest battle for me, but it is certainly different than it used to be. I feel that I have successfully made a solid lifestyle change - and I'm thrilled with that!

As for holidays, we'll be heading back to FLA in August (I'll wave to you on my way overhead!), and are really looking forward to 2 weeks at the beach!

Glad things are well with you, Lois! Thanks again for the update!
    Until next time...
